Nice dining options are few and far between in the area. You could count places like this on one hand, and Rootimentary rises to the top. Interesting menu with classic southern-ish combinations with new twists. The meatloaf Wellington had no business being this good - topped with a pepper jelly as a kind of homage to ketchup topping mom’s meatloaf. The loaf itself was seasoned perfectly and the peppercorn sauce underneath was thyme heavy and delicious. The mushroom risotto wasn’t quite a creamy risotto, but delicious nonetheless. Collards, steak, grits, all enjoyable and high-quality. We got a couple cocktails as well, and these were probably our only complaint. The S(ide)carlet Letter was a classic combination but came out incredibly heavy on the lemon, almost to the point of being undrinkable. We also got The Duke with Buffalo Trace, and while it was good…for $16 there should at least be some kind of garnish. All the staff were kind but the bartender did seem pretty inexperienced, looked up recipes on her phone, took plates at odd times just small things that seemed like she wasn’t familiar. Lastly, the vibe in the place is good - slightly upscale and open with full view of the kitchen. The lights are a little bright for dinner service, and the bar could use slightly more comfortable chairs, but mostly matches the price point of the menu. Overall, an incredibly quality place in the area for special occasions, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The ambience needs some slight tweaks, and the staff needs some training to match the quality of the menu and food, but we’ll definitely be back. Really glad that...
Read moreWe dined there as part of our anniversary on Saturday evening. Total party of 6 for a 5pm reservation. We were the first one's seated that evening. The service and atmosphere were fine no complaints. Really the food was good too overall. Two of our party had the Ribeye Steaks and I really can't remember how they liked them so I'll just comment on the other 3 dishes we had. First my wife and a gentleman in our party both had the Meatloaf Wellington. Both said it was very good and I agreed. Different spices in the meatloaf but very good, I'd say 8.5 out of 10! One lady had the Short Rib Pappardelle and said she would call it a 7 overall so not bad but not outstanding either? I had the Shrimp and Grits. I really enjoy this dish and will routinely get it at different places. I'd call it a 7 overall. It was never going to be an 8....might have rated it 7.5 but the grits were WAY oversalted. They would have been inedible by themselves. However the positive was that the tomato sauce tended to lessen the extreme amount of salt in the grits and helped to balance it out. So overall? Not bad I'd say slightly above average but not a place that...
Read moreIncredible atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious menu. The menu has a range with something for everyone, even kids (kids menu with a few sensible options with great portion size). I love the options from starts to steaks, with prices to match. I love that there is somewhere in Laurens to celebrate a special occasion so close to home, or grab a fresh local salad on a night I need to get out of the house. The curated drink menu is to die for! They are delicious and have quirky, on brand names that make you want to try more than just one. The menu is extremely smart, and changes to fit their freshest selection. I have been twice, having an entree (braised short ribs which melted in my mouth,) and the second time a ribeye steak with added herb compound butter and choice of side. Both options were great portion sizes and well worth the price. In my opinion, the entrees are super reasonably priced for the caliber of food that is being served. It’s a new type of place for Laurens, but they are clearly filling the large gap of what was needed here. You sit at the bar and get a drink or two, or have a sit down three course meal with...
