The service was terrible. We spent about an hour and a half at this restaurant with a very light order (**$140 worth). I ordered steamed dumplings that came out cold- (like refrigerator cold) they brought it back a few minutes later after microwaving them. My sons spicy rock shrimp came out cold. My wifes tuna /avocado wraps came out with rice in them after she ordered no rice. They forgot the avocado in one of them so they just shoved the avocado into it after we sent it back. There were 4 adult's and two children in our party.... Three of the adult's just ordered appetizers and we all ate at different times because they brought out food sporadically over the hour and a half we were stuck there for. The sushi took the longest to arrive. It came just as we were getting ready to walk out. The main reason we went there was because we had two young children with us. They were excited to see the "Robot ". Well we were informed that the robot was broken but they said it would deliver the food.... They forgot and brought the food out...we reminded them so they pushed it out once for the inital first few plates that were delivered. That was the last we saw of the robot. Our waitress was impossible to find throughout the meal. We asked to speak to the manager about my wife's meal but they said the manager was busy. The price we paid for what we received was a joke! We stopped off and picked up some Chinese food on the way home because we were all still hungry. ** Avoid the frustration and save your money and your time!! We...
Read moreWe moved to Seaside Park from NY about 18 months ago and after eating at a few places I had effectively given up on eating sushi down here at all. Just being turned off by the local offering, for a while I passed over even trying Hoshino until last night.
Let me just start by saying this is the best sushi in the area, and it's not even close!
It's very authentic, with focus on quality of ingredients. People who complain about the portion size/price have no idea what authentic sushi is, and should stay in their lane. If you want big floppy pieces of lower grade sashimi, Xina is right over the bridge.
While waiting for our meal, we overheard a gentleman at the table next to us say this is very good sushi, that it reminds him of NYC. He isn't wrong. I have extensive experience eating at sushi restaurants in the city and Japan, and this is as close as it gets.
While I had sushi my girlfriend had the beef negimaki, and it was also very good. Bonus points for putting Toro on the menu and actually having it. Too many sushi restaurants say they have Toro but then never do.
If we had one complaint, it would be the wait time. It seems they only had one server and so things moved a bit slowly. However, Bill, our server, was very nice and polite despite having to run around and serve several tables at once.
Moving forward there is no doubt we will be eating...
Read moreAfter a recent visit to Hoshimo Sushi, I left with mixed feelings. The restaurant doesn't accept reservations for parties smaller than four, so we arrived as walk-ins. While the hostess was upfront about the wait and provided regular updates, it took 45 minutes to an hour to be seated.
Once seated, no one came to take our order, prompting me to go back to the hostess station to request service. The kitchen was reportedly backed up, so we were in for another wait.
We started with miso soup and edamame. The miso soup's flavor were off, probably because of an imbalance in the miso-to-water ratio. The edamame was cooked well but needed salt. Both appetizers were just okay.
After a 45-minute wait, our sushi finally came out. The highlight of the meal was definitely the sushi rolls. The Screaming Salmon and Sweet Potato Tempura rolls were standouts, while the Crazy Salmon and Spicy Tuna rolls were decent. Overall, the sushi earns a solid 7/10 for quality, flavor combinations, and presentation.
Service throughout the meal was okay but could use improvement. Our small table became cluttered as finished plates weren't cleared when new dishes arrived.
If the restaurant improves its service flow issues, then it’ll be worth a visit for sushi lovers.
3 stars overall, 4 stars for...
