Colonial Bakery Inc — Restaurant in Lavallette

We went here looking for Italian pastries, and we found some here. The crumb cake was great if you like mostly huge crumbs. I like an equal balance of cake. You can see from my pictures that there's hardly any cake. It wasn't what I expected after reading that they had the best crumb cake anywhere (and a customer told me the same while I was in the store). The cannolis were just bad. Skip them. The shells were soft, the custard was dense, tasteless, and hardly any chocolate chips (I bought 5, one had none). They were covered by way too much powdered sugar also. Love the bakery/coffee items here, they’re delicious. However, it’s a shame that the staff needs to work on their customer service/people skills. Need to tell one blonde girl to SMILE. All she did was pout and seem bothered by my order. Came across very rude. Just all very young in there and not always the nicest. My family has been vacationing in lavallette for 40 years and this bakery is always our favorite spot. Just left a bad taste in my mouth having that worker. I am sad to write this as someone who has been coming since I was a child, but the birthday cake I got from here was really just not good, the chocolate buttercream tasted like grocery store vanilla with maybe a sprinkle of chocolate to make it brown, the cake was dry, and the “cannoli” filling just tasted like plain ricotta cheese.
