I donât usually write reviews in fact this is my first one. All I have to say is that this was the worst cake I have ever had in my entire life. Itâs crazy but I honestly wish I could have my money back. I ordered a 1/2 pound cake for my friend and requested the words âfeel better â¤ď¸â. Please look at the picture and tell me that it isnât a kids hand writing. When I first opened it with my friend next to me, I was beyond embarrassed. And the funny thing was that the writing wasnât the worst of all. I know good cake when I taste one and this was smothered in simple syrup which is the liquid they put to keep it tasting sweet and fresh which to be honest didnât do it justice because the cake tasted like old garbage. I donât want to get into the frosting because it was disgusting, not fresh and tasted horrible. There was more frosting than actual cake and Iâm a big fan of frosting especially Dominican frosting. This one wasnât it.
For anyone who disagrees with me I recommend you try a cake from sweet grace heavenly cakes or Yeska cakes in Lawrence. Truly the best cakes out there. They taste beyond fresh and the Dominican frosting is more than likely homemade. There other frostings also taste just as good. This was my first time trying Carlos cakes and I thought that by the pictures they were going to be good⌠yeah no I was wrong. I got nauseous after eating the cake.
Side note: if youâre Dominican and want a caramelo cake. Order from somewhere else. All they do here is mix frosting with milk and sugar. I nearly through up.
Whoever made this cake please take some baking lessons and I mean that in the nicest...
Read moreI called last night to ask if I could walk in and get a tres leches cake for my husband or if it needed to be special ordered. I was told I could walk in and get one the next day. So this morning I went in, asked for a tres leches cake. The girl at the counter did not speak English and asked another customer to translate for her. I left with a cake that I thought was correct. Sang happy birthday to my husband and when he cut into it I knew it wasn't right. It was a regular cake. No tres leches. He called them and explained what happened and they couldn't have cared less. Talk about poor customer service. Another thing- when they wrote happy birthday on the cake the messed up writing "Dada", half scraped it off and re-wrote it with red smudge all over it. I drove a half hour to get a special cake for my husband and I paid double for what would have tasted better from...
Read moreTheir rum and caramel cakes is where itâs at! Ask them to lower the sugar a bit and go nuts with the dulce de leche if you really want flavor as opposed to more sweetness. And their sandwiches! The cubano specially is out of this world. They use actual pernil, with the crackling and juice and all the yummy stuff usually left out. And the pork is so juicy and thoroughly seasoned and flavourful. Probably the only sandwich joint in Lawrence that actually puts love into the meat of the sandwich. The chicken is delicious as well. So are the pastelitos! And the pineapple sticks! Iâve pretty much tried every sandwich joint in Lawrence ( fat because of it lmao) but this place, particularly the Water St corner store, blew them all out of the water. It tastes like a Hispanic made that sandwich, and thatâs a...
