El Vago Cantina — Restaurant in Lawrence

Don't go here but if you absolutely must; go for drinks & vibes. The food is underwhelming. Small portions that are not well plated, cooked or seasoned. Example: three large birria tacos with a tiny portion of consume. Small order of guacamole with more chips than quac. Menu descriptions that are nothing like what is actually placed in front of you with items that could be allergens, such as eggs, without any warning. I returned a dish with an over easy egg on top, because it was listed on the menu. Had exactly one bite of food & sent it back because it was not what was described. They wouldn't take it off the bill until I got loud & said they could have killed me with the egg that was not in the menu description, amongst other erroneous descriptions of the dish. They argued with me about $22 when three people had gotten appetizers, multiple drinks & entrees. Horrendous customer service & we'll never return. Not spending my hard earned...

The ONLY thing I can give this restaurant is that there are nice sitting areas for people who want to take pictures. The music was decent as well but everything else definitely convinced me to never return. The location of this restaurant is very inconvenient, to start. No parking anywhere on that street. Once we got inside, the waitress sat at the bar for 10+ minutes before even coming over to greet us or take drink orders. The elote appetizer is insulting. I paid $12 for ONE ear of corn cut in half and skewered. The chicken nachos were so dull, the shredded chicken had no flavor, and the whole plate was doused in that artificial nacho cheese sauce. Finally, we ordered some chicken tacos that left much to be desired. There was nothing in them besides the same shredded chicken that was on the nachos and some micro greens. Overall this experience did not leave me with any desire to return and honestly don’t know why...

Cozy joint with a vibrant atmosphere.

The food was delicious. I ordered three tacos; carnitas, chicken and carne asada. They were all delicious but the carne asada was my favorite

While the food and atmosphere were great, there were some things I didn't particularly enjoy:

A can of soda is $3. That's just outright ridiculous. Comparable restaurants are in the $2-3 range for fountain drinks with unlimited refills

Gratuity is automatically added. I ate in a party of 2 and a 15% gratuity was automatically added to my bill. I understand that is common for larger parties, but I find it odd for a small party.

The volume of the music was a lot. When we were seated I didn't recall any music. It got louder several times as we ate, making it difficult to have a conversation. When we left we noticed a DJ that wasn't there when we entered. I guess we came during some sort of...
