We were in Leander having a local mechanic shop do a pre-purchase inspection our sons first vehicle and found Nick’s Breakfast & Coffee a mere 3 minutes away. My wife wanted to try something different so we dropped in Nick’s. There were a few people waiting outside and some folks showed up who had phone in ahead, but it was a very pleasant morning and my bride and I sat outside and perused the menu. Let me tell you this: Nick has got breakfast covered! From stuffed French toast to Nick’s Omelet to Eggs Benedict as well as a mighty good looking lunch menu. Let me tell you - I LOVE HAMBURGERS. Not Mickey D burgers but Real hamburgers. Not the fancy hamburgers, y’all can have those but a good classic burger. In the hamburger section is said that the 9 oz hamburger patty was fresh, never frozen and that tells me, a Hamburger Connoisseur- A LOT. That said, I was in the mood for breakfast so I ordered Nick’s Omelet. (Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, your choice of meat (bacon, ham or sausage, and choice of cheese American, Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack, and Feta). I went with bacon and cheddar cheese. It comes with a side of hash browns and toast, which I subbed a biscuit and an additional side of sausage gravy. Let me tell you straight up - it was ALL AWESOME!!! The hash browns were perfect. Crispy crunch on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. (And tasted like potato and not oil, a very important point to call out.) The omelet covered more than half of my large plate! The omelets were cooked perfectly. The biscuit was nice and big, flaky and moist, the sausage gravy was savory, and needed nothing. (Except a dash or 3 of Tabasco which is my hot sauce. My wife got the spinach and feta omelet and the spinach was bright and fresh and even though it was a relatively simple omelet it tasted outstanding!! The coffee was smooth, not bitter and the service was executed with excellence. I will say this and this should say it all. We live in Temple, TX, and I guarantee you that we will be back at Nick’s for the food alone. I’m going to be thinking about that classic burger or the Reuben until we return!
Our server told us Nick was working the grill or she would’ve asked him to come stop by our table. I hope Nick runs the business as well as he runs his grill and kitchen so that he will be around for years to come. Leander - y’all have one of the best breakfast joints I’ve been to in this part of our fine Republic and I hope y’all are enjoying it as much as we did!!
Nick’s was an unexpected surprise in our visit to Leander. I thought I was making sure my son’s first vehicle was GTG, and while we did that, we found a gem of a restaurant!!!
Well done Nick and team y’all have some new fans in Temple who will be making a trip back down to visit...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Nick's and I'm already looking forward to going back. Nick's is a small cozy shop that seats, I'd guess, around 50. I went on Saturday and arrived at 8am. The parking lot was almost completely full. So was the shop. But 5 minutes later I was seated and looking through the menu. For a small shop, it's a big menu. Lots of choices. Not the historical novel you used to get at Cheesecake Factory, thank goodness, but if it's regular breakfast food you're looking for there's guaranteed to be something for everyone in your party. Nicks isn't an art food boutique selling overpriced items dwarfed by an almost empty plate. There's BIG portions here priced about what you'd pay at Denny's, IHOP, or First Watch. But you don't get shrinkflated like you would at those other shops. And the coffee at Nicks is a billion times better than any breakfast place around. Seriously. Go to Denny's or IHOP and try to drink the hot beverage they call coffee. Then try Nicks. They serve fresh beans that they grind themselves every morning before they open. It's strong. It has character. And you get more when you cup reaches half way. My wife ordered the French Toast plate which is three 1" thick pieces of egg battered bread cut in half. Six toast pieces covered the plate from side to side. And two pieces of bacon with scrambled eggs on the side. She took home a box and finished it on Sunday. That's how much food there was on that order. I had the country fried steak with hash browns, two eggs, toast, and a from-the-cart side of sausage. It was all huge and I finished mine. But there was no room for lunch, and dinner was cheese and crackers. That's how much food there was on that order. We totaled out at $50 with tax and tip. But it was really four meals, not two, so be sure to arrive hungry, order more carefully than I did, or be prepared to take leftovers home. Nick's serves a standard breakfast menu of eggs, meat, and bread. It's not a salad pretending to be breakfast that First Watch seems to be doing a lot of these days. If you don't want to eat much in the morning, you're probably better off there. But if you're craving the classic big breakfast with REAL COFFEE that an outdoorsman would love, definitely give...

I’d rather make the drive to Snooze where I know they season their food and provide excellent service.
I have never left a bad review until today. I’m tired of being overcharged for subpar food! I will not be returning or recommending this establishment to anyone.
Upon entering, I was told “the food is expensive but it’s good.” It indeed was expensive for the quality it offered, you’re better off going to Denny’s or IHOP.
I ordered hash browns with eggs and sausage. My food arrived alarmingly fast—less than five minutes. While quick service is great, this wasn’t a sign of efficiency, it was a red flag.
The hash browns were bland, unseasoned, and tasted freezer-burnt. When I told my waitress, she called over the manager, who casually admitted that they never season their hash browns. That explained a lot. The eggs were also completely unseasoned, and the sausage tasted like something store-bought. I couldn’t tell if anything on my plate was made in-house.
To make up for it, they offered me a pancake. But at that point, the damage was done. I had already eaten because I was trying to be polite, but I left disappointed and unimpressed. I was charged full price, understandable but not when the food is bad.
Also, $4.50 for a cup of milk? That’s ridiculous.
For the $21 I spent, I expected food that at least tasted like it was prepared with care. Instead, I got something that felt like it came straight out of a freezer and onto my plate. If I wanted that, I could have saved my money and made breakfast at home.
The only reason I’m leaving any stars is because the service was polite and professional. Unfortunately, that’s the only good thing I can say.
There was no flavor here, except in the sausage links, skinny store...
