What a nice little spot for a quick - or sweet - bite! There's approximately a ba-zillion different types of hot dogs; pork - carnitas, sliders; beer (I think wine); sodas; chips; and a variety of ice cream: soft-serve, hard, shakes, flurries, etc... Service was notable. Having worked in the service industry it always stands out when an employee greets me as I'm walking in the front door. Ditto when they're articulate and make eye contact. (Bonus: when they're doing so and it's their last day before heading back to college. Says a lot about the employees Capital Dog hires and/or the business itself.) I had basic dogs with ketchup and mustard and will go again for either the same or to try another concoction as those were nom. Presentation, including the 'go-box', was appealing; we eat with our eyes first, right? I've read complaints about pricing. Are you kidding? Rates were not unreasonable. Ya aint's gon' find a comparable, filling meal with friendly service in a clean (and beautiful) setting in the heart of tourist town AND amidst high inflation. (Speaking of complaints - mine: reviewers with 1 or 2 reviews - typically negative - whose reviews unfavorably skew a businesses online presence. D*psh*ts.) For me, the best thing about Capital Dog is their patio. It's absolutely beautiful. Too bad it's not associated with a meal lasting longer than in takes to inhale a couple dogs, some chips, and a cone. Do yourself a favor and give 'em a go. I was foolish listening to another's (one) opinion, and subsequently deterred from trying them for a minute. I'm glad to have put my big girl pants on and make the decision to give them a try. The whole experience was a good one and did not disappoint!

We stopped here two consecutive days for food and treats. Monday afternoon we had a boat ride and stopped at the public dock in town which was a short walk to the store. They had a great selection of sandwiches (yes and hot dogs!) and and 8 flavors of hard packed ice cream PLUS malts, shakes, sundaes and floats. We had a couple of sandwiches and ice cream at lunch and the next night went back for ice cream and shakes. The malts and shakes were outstanding. What made this an outstanding experience both times was the amazing staff. Both times we visited there was a crew of young men running the place. They were as nice as they were efficient. Plus it looked like they were having fun. Made us smile and think of summer jobs in our youth.

I'm a local guy and was excited when this place popped up in our county, the one time I went there I was craving a coney and fries, sure it was pricey for a hotdog and fries and a drink but hey it's Leelanau county! The food was good and worth it every now and again, but everytime I went back they were closed, even the green light was on outside and the website said they were open, I tried to go back there everytime I passed by and they were always closed, I mean in the middle of the day during a weekday too! I just eventually said to myself I guess these guys don't have to work if they don't want to and they pick their own hours of operation despite the green light outside and website hours saying they are open, I got over it and never been back since, it's too bad, I would of liked to try other things on the menu, now they are closed all winter and locals don't get to have that, we have to wait for the tourists season to enjoy it, whos it...

This was a pleasant surprise! I looked for a place we could grab a quick lunch during our wine tasting trip that offered vegan food and just assumed it would be a generic hot dog place. I was pleasantly surprised! They didn't have a ton of vegan options but the veggie burger was delicious! They also went out of their way to clarify my order and make sure they didn't put anything on it it wasn't supposed to have! And they were pretty busy! The wait wasn't very long even though they were busy, they were attentive, and friendly. My friend ordered the turkey club and said it was really good. Their fries are also totally worth it! They also have shakes which looked really yummy. Definitely a great place to grab a quick and tasty lunch and it won't...
