Restaurants in Castle Hills seem to struggle, but Hills Cafe figured out the formula, and it seems to be thriving. They offer good food... it is a diner, and you can generally get in with very little wait. On Sunday, my husband and I decided to go there for breakfast. There was one couple in front of us, and the hostess said the wait would be 25 minutes! We could see an empty table and people gathering their things to leave, so 25 minutes is what you expect when the line is out the door. The other couple left, and I was ready to leave, but my husband wanted to stay. We were seated in under 10 minutes. When I pointed out that 25 minutes was a bit long and not based on a wait list or anything that would lead you to that conclusion, the hostess said they didn't know how long people would stay at the tables, so they just said 25 min. Hello training staff, this hostess is sending people away unnecessarily. Apart from that, my salmon eggs benedict were delicious. The server got my husband's order wrong but made up for it quickly. We will go back since we live in Castle Hills, but my guess is they are training new people. Oh, and this is true of every place in the DFW area where I have ordered Eggs Benedict, you have to tell the server you want the eggs runny. For some reason, chefs here think the eggs should be almost hard boiled. I'm not sure why, I just accept it and specify. At first, I thought they were leaving the plate under a heat lamp too long but when I point out the eggs should be runny, all the servers seem to be surprised and write it down as if I had ordered fried eggs and there was a question as to how I want...
Read moreI love the convenience of this location for the community of Castle Hills. It was a nice place to meet my friend for breakfast and take time to catch up. The decor and atmosphere was great. It’s a cute little place and was very comfortable.
The menu is nice and they have a lot of options as well as some healthy choices. They gladly substituted pancakes for French toast, but I feel like I may have enjoyed the pancakes better.
They offer fresh squeezed orange juice which was the star of the show! However, they only offer one size and it’s nice and large. That wouldn’t be the best for kids but I’m sure they would bring additional glasses and you could separate it into smaller servings. My friend ordered a caramel latte And wanted a small orange juice but there wasn’t an option.
The food was good but not amazing. The service was okay. Our server never picked up straw wrappers and other trash that I placed at the edge of the table. It would have been so easy to grab that off the table while we enjoyed our meal.
I ordered the ‘For Mom’: scrambled eggs, bacon and substituted French toast for the pancakes. The French toast looked amazing but was pretty bland, even with a lot of butter and syrup that I added. It was also a bit tough. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the eggs were good.
My friend ordered the avocado toast. It was delicious. We couldn’t really see the oil that the menu indicated was drizzled on it but it was so fresh tasting. The fruit was nice and the scrambled egg whites were fine.
I’m sure I’ll try them again but I’ll probably choose...
Read moreIt was very slow, but the two servers weren't coming over, so the manager took my order of a cheeseburger cooked medium rare.
The burger was delivered cooked less than rare, so I asked the manager to have it cooked a little more so that I wouldn't get ill from eating raw hamburger meat.
He brought it back cooked well done and when I told him that the cook overcooked it, he argued with me and gaslit me saying that it was medium rare and pink when it was at least medium well or well done.
The manager refused to cook another patty. I asked if he expected me to pay for it as I am an honest person and he said no. He continued arguing saying that it was pink when I saw no pink.
He made a scene in the restaurant in front of one other table saying how nice he had been. I don't agree that he was nice about the doneness of my burger.
I told him that I would never come back even though I have been there many times since it first opened.
Initially, there was a different manager and the food was a lot better. Since this new manager took charge, both the food and service have declined significantly. Obviously he doesn't believe in trying to please the customer.
I eat at many fine dining establishments and have never encountered an issue like this of a manager refusing to get my food right. I rarely send food back at any restaurant.
I noticed that the business here has decreased significantly. I must not be the only...
