UPDATED: I searched for Asian Wind while I was sitting at the library nearby to check the menu for takeout. The page that came up clearly had "Asian Wind" at the top of the page. We ordered 'shrimp tempura with vegetables' under the House Specials tab. Four generations of our family had eaten there for 30+ years and our experience with the new owner's poor customer service was so dissatisfying we took time to write this review. When we called to inform that we didn't get what we ordered, the man claiming to be the 'owner' responded immediately that his restaurant doesn't serve shrimp tempura with vegetables. We explained how we'd ordered straight from Google search, which we've done COUNTLESS times, and it clearly listed it under Asian Wind--AND I'd asked specifically in our phoned-in order to the owner for the TEMPURA. The 'owner' continued arguing that his restaurant doesn't have that. On top of this fiasco, the shrimp and vegetables that we got instead of the shrimp tempura and vegetables that we ordered was extremely sugary sweet and not good. We have NEVER had an order from Asian Wind that was this bad. After I explained 3 times that I'd ordered straight from the menu via Google from Asian Wind, the owner requested that I text him the photos from my phone. I did, clearly showing ASIAN WIND at the top of the pix from the Google search. His text response, 2 HOURS after our order had been reported as incorrect-- instead of offering to correct the issue--was: "I don't know how you search for a restaurant. I have proved to you that we don't have the dish you need, and this restaurant has never had tempura shrimp for 30 years. We care about the feelings of every customer, but you need a dish that I don't have. I can't do anything about it. If you are dissatisfied with the dishes, you can take it back and I will refund you at the original price. As for what you said to give us a bad evaluation of the restaurant, it's your right. Have a good day" This 'owner's' customer service was nothing but argumentative versus helpful in satisfying customers. Despite his comment above, he is clearly completely UNinterested in satisfied customers. It is regrettable because our family has supported Asian Wind restaurant for SO many years. Frankly, this man seriously needs to learn better customer service --ESPECIALLY for people who have been loyal to Asian Wind for decades. No more. Since the service and the 'owner's' attitude were so pathetic and disrespectful and completely disregarded the customer's experience--AND the food was awful--we have closed the chapter on Asian Wind for our family. ***We sure miss the previous Owner George Wei, as we NEVER experienced such blatant and callous disregard for the customer experience.*** Goodbye Asian Wind. May you survive your current owner. *** TO THE OWNER per his reply below: Despite your comments that you aim to resolve any issue, you have my phone number and have done NOTHING to resolve the experience except to offer us the chance to return our food 2 HOURS later for a refund. You have MUCH to learn about proper customer service.

Set the Sail with Asian Wind... While visiting my family in town, we decided to grab a Christmas lunch. Though many other food outings were closed during the holiday, we were able to immediately get a table for 4 during lunch peak. The waitress was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Our orders were taken and the dishes started to fly out from the kitchen within 10 minutes. The coconut shrimps were what you'd expect. Though they came with honey mustard as the dipping sauce. Interesting. Empress Chicken... aka Sweet and Sour. It had a nice light batter with vegetable medley. Orange Beef... Tender and lightly battered pieces of beef and orange slices for garnish. Though the beef pieces didn't have "beefy taste, they were still delightful. The citrus flavor wasn't intrusive. Tofu and Vegetables... chunks of tofu mingling with vegetable medley and brown sauce... and "healthier" alternative. Lastly the show stopper... Eggplant with Garlic sauce, a very aesthetically pleasing that would satisfy your hunger. It's transparent these dishes aren't authentic... but they'll certainly satisfy your Asian-inspired food cravings.

I’m so disappointed. Had such high hope for Asian Wind after falling in love with Panda Cuisine’s traditional Chinese dishes. Asian Wind was small, but well decorated. We didn’t feel crowded. However, despite all the wonderful authentic names on the menu, the dishes were not authentic at all. Heavily reliant on sauces. Which is ok if you enjoy American influenced Chinese fast food, but based on the names, we had high hope for authentic dishes. I got the Szechuan chicken and the signature Szechuan tongue numbing pepper note was not present at all. If anything, it has a mild-spicy tomato taste to the heavy sauce. Picture of what I got, versus what I normally get for a Szechuan dish, stir-fried in fragrant pepper, Chinese spices, and herbs. On a positive note for them, we did appreciate the amount of veggies and thought the dish was better than the Chinese restaurant we have in Georgetown. Service was ok. Not friendly, but fast.

2021 5 star review: I continued to go to this restaurant for years after this review was posted and when I began working at a job near them would go for lunch there weekly. I no longer live in Kentucky but I have eaten incredible food in many other states and will still say that Asian Wind has some of the most absolutely delicious food I've ever eaten. If you are vegan in Lexington you are missing out if you don't eat here. I still eat here whenever I visit. It is a gem. The staff is still pretty much the same as it ever was but I no longer personally had incidents like the first review I posted. I will say some servers are better than others in terms of answering questions though.

2013 3 star review: I have been to Asian Wind quite a few times. They have one of the best vegetarian menus in Lexington and all of the food that I have ordered has been great. The reason I'm even writing this review is that tonight I received the worst service I have ever gotten at any restaurant in this town. I will be fair, occasionally people judge me or the people I'm with because we have alternative hairstyles or piercings but they are never as unfriendly, unpleasant, and completely rude as this particular waitress was. She snapped at me when I asked her to repeat what came with a dish I had never tried before, she handed us our food haphazardly or just dropped it in front of us, she called one of my female companions 'sir' (which, if you're not sure, why even bother to say that?), she put our checks in front of us halfway through our meal (we hadn't even been there 30 minutes), and then she got aggravated and kept coming back to take our checks and see her tips. While she was trying to collect all of our money, she standing over me watching me fill out my receipt and then yelled 'give me pen!' immediately afterwards, even though I was trying to rush as fast as possible. I was already kind of frazzled since she was clearly ushering us out, and then gave us nasty looks when we left. If I go back I'm going to ask to never be sat by her again, since according to the other reviews the service might be better with other waiters...

12/30/23 - The rudest experience in my 45 years on this planet. My wife and I stopped in around 1:00 PM and had the following experience. When we waited to be seated, there was a couple checking out who complained about being charged for items they didn't receive. Next we were seated next to a couple who barely touched their food. They left 75% of the food on their plates. We order and the menu didn't have DanDan Noodles one of my favorites there a couple of years ago. We order sesame chicken and General Tao's chicken. My wife goes to the restroom and reported that it smelled like raw sewage. I go to restroom and there is a black maker note on the wall about the urinal "Move Closer and put back in pants before stepping back". I come back to table and we were served cold egg rolls. The young waiter brings my food and the fried rice looked like it was prepared several days ago and reheated. I eat a couple pieces of the chicken and it wasn't bad. Several minutes pass and my wife still hasn't received any food. The waiter returns and without any explanation takes my plate. I look at him in surprise and he says "This is not your food. This is all white meat and for someone else." He starts to leave and I am I shocked. Why not let me have the dish and I will pay the difference in price. My suspicion is waiter was going to take it to another patron. I immediately asked or the check and got up. The waiter returns with an older man and who rang up my dish and two drinks... It was $19 for food that I didn't get to eat. Only explanation was the waiter was new. This is the rudest/ shrewdest service I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. My prayer is I don't get sick from the egg rolls or the few bites of chicken. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE! I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS...
