Today was only our 2nd visit; our first one garnered a good first impression, so we came back to try some other items. Unfortunately, it turned out to be Parents Day at W&L university so it was crazy busy. The ordering line proceeded quickly enough, but the wait time for our take-out took 40 min. for a sandwich and a salad. We didn’t mind the wait as much, but what was disconcerting was watching the persons at the prep counter putting together the food while I was waiting. Not sure of the Virginia requirements, but most food handlers at least wear vinyl/nitrile gloves when preparing orders (maybe it’s optional here?). As I viewed the hustle in the prep area, hoping that our order would be next, there were a couple of other observations that -suffice it to say- will deter us from returning. For the sake of future diners, hopefully, my observations were unique to this very busy day.
btw, is the 4% “Facility Charge”(?) atop the expected Meals tax(6%) and Sales tax(5.3%) common to all Lexington restaurants/Diners? Hadn’t noticed that before - and wouldn’t have - if the cashier hadn’t given me a receipt. I’ve read that these additional fees, among others, are charged in part to offset the business’ credit card processing fees (understandable), but perhaps these businesses should inform/post that info at the counter so that patrons have the option to pay cash. I’m all for supporting local businesses, and don’t mind paying a little more, but in return, I’d like the quality of services and food to be...
Read moreI stopped in today because I had been eyeing this little joint for a while and when I entered I was greeted with smiling faces. I bought a lemon blueberry cinnamon roll, cinnamon roll, sausages egg and cheese quiche, and a homemade muffin. The lemon blueberry was exactly what I was looking for although I think I would have gone with a cream cheese icing with small lemon peels. The cinnamon rolls was wonderful still warm and squishy perfect for a cool fall day. The quiche was warm and fluffy not mushy but fluffy they baked it so well. When walking into this establishment you will be hit with the smell of fresh baked goodies that just make you feel in desert heaven. I appreciate you guys so much and will be back soon...
Read moreThis place is awesome. First I arrived about 10 min after closing. The front door was locked and as I walked back to my car the side door opened and a young lady asked if she could help me. I wanted a loaf of bread for my trip. I apologized for being late but she offered me service with a smile even though the till has been closed out. You just can't beat this kind of ownership and service. I used to work in Lexington about 8 years ago and have fond memories of my lunches here. The chicken salad is the best I have had in any restaurant. The chibata is one of the best I have had. The soups warm the soul on the cool Lexington days and fill the belly with delight. You really can't go wrong coming...
