I originally gave a good review the first time we ate here, even though there were a couple of challenges. We decided to return and unfortunately it turned to a one-star review. The service was extremely slow and there was no coordination with the kitchen and the timing of the food coming out. We ordered our drinks, two came out in a timely manner and the other one took forever. It looked like they didn't have a dedicated bar person and for a busy restaurant that's unacceptable. This is a fairly expensive restaurant and the service and food should be reflective of that. When our appetizers came out that gyōzas were cold (horrible) but luckily the spring rolls were hot. We ended up having to cancel two of the entrees, because I had finished mine before the others had even finished being prepared. We asked for our check so we could leave because we couldn't wait any longer. When one of the chefs heard that we were canceling the two entrees he looked at me and I pointed to my plate showing I had finished had my entree and the other two had not been served. His response was to just glare at me, obviously he didn't care, totally unacceptable. Don't waste your time and money at this restaurant. We ourselves will be gong back to Zen to eat our Japanese, even though it is a longer...
Read moreService was excellent from beginning to end. Our waiter was kind, quick, and respectful. However, I cannot say the same about the food.
It took nearly an hour for all the food to come out, which would have normally been fine if it weren't for the fact that one of our appetizers (the Gyoza) had cooled to room temperature by the time we received it.
Food was pretty mediocre and small in portions given the price. The only decent thing we ate was the wagyu hot stone served with garlic salt and butter. The Gyoza was overly sweet and very plain. The nigiri and sashimi were cut too thin and tasted... eh--it wasn't anything special and tasted marginally better than what you could prepare with a knife and some store-bought fish.
Overall, this place was a huge letdown given all the other good reviews. It had good service but that was it. Food was mediocre (especially given the price), atmosphere was alright, and the whole thing just felt like a restaurant trying to be special and expensive without any of the...
Read moreMy wife and I tried Omakase for the first time last night. It was nearly empty at 6:30pm on a Friday as we had got there right before the rush. We asked to sit at the sushi chef bar and were sat in front of our chef Fred. We greatly enjoyed listening to Fred tell us about various foods, fish, ingredients, etc while watching him assemble rolls that look more like art than they do food. His recommendations were fantastic and we enjoyed every single one of them. Fred made our experience truly special and we are very grateful for him. Everything we tried and ordered was phenomenal, it was definitely the best sushi we have had in Lexington. We had the gyoza, red snapper, yellowtail, tuna, pink flamingo roll, and limestone roll - all of which were exceptional. I would also like to recognize our waitress, Julia, who took wonderful care of us all night and was very kind and friendly. We can’t recommend the Palomar...
