Guess we simply hit this place at the wrong time. An early Thursday dinner that I had been looking forward to all week...
We were greeted quickly and well when we walked in - I believe they were training a new hostess and we were seated at a nice spot inside (the outside seating area looked great, but I went with inside so my wife would be more comfortable).
Once inside our server arrived after several long minutes, which seemed overly long to me considering the only real "crowd" was one very large group. We ordered our drinks and the onion rings as an appetizer, and those delicious onion rings arrived crazy quick - and they were soooooo good. The batter was a refreshing change from so many that are out there, and both versions of their Ranch added to the experience.
Once again, it took quite some time for our server to return to ask about our dinner order... but once the food arrived (again, pretty quickly, but there were still very few diners seated other than the large group) it was fantastic! True ol' fashioned country cookin' with flavors that reminded me of my childhood.
I chose the chicken livers and they were amazing! Not a dish you are able to find many places anymore, and when you add in the mashed potatoes and the very good okra, the dish just absolutely hit the spot.
My wife ordered the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and the Mac n Cheese - not my taste in food, but she enjoyed her meal as well (there was something a bit too sweet I the mac for me and brown gravy is just not my thing). The only real disappointment for both of us were the rolls --- not homemade and were still cold in the middle (sure did seem like they were frozen Sister Schubert rolls from HEB).
We were hoping to try a dessert, but when it became apparent our server had simply finally forgotten us, we decided that our time with Dahlia had come to a disappointing end. I was able to flag her down (we had not seen her for 15 minutes after I decided to begin paying attention, well after it had already become frustrating) and paid and headed home.
Overall -- food was amazing and brought back some fond taste memories (can't say anything about the desserts they offer). First encounter with the staff was fantastic, but it went downhill rapidly once seated. Big kudos to the back of house crew - I seriously was impressed with the speed of our orders.
Will we be back? Not sure... so many great options out there, with the lack of service I won't make a special trip, however if I find myself in the area I may very well give it...
Read moreWe used to live out in Liberty Hill and would come to Dahlia’s all the time for breakfast. We haven’t been since COVID and since the new ownership/management. Unfortunately, it seems, whatever has changed since 2021 has not been for the best.
On arrival and check-in we were quoted a 20 minute wait. We stepped out onto the patio to wait while our kids played on the playscape. It was a little chilly and overcast so nobody seated on the patio. Within 5 minutes one of the staff came out and told us we weren’t allowed to wait on the patio. That we needed to step off because it was a seating area. Even though nobody was (or wanted to sit outside.
About 30 more minutes pass and the host asked if we wanted a table outside. We politely declined, again because of the weather. We waited 10 more minutes before our parents decided to leave and go home. So with just our family left (6 people) we updated the host.
After about 40-45 min total we were finally seated and greeted by the server. We ordered our drinks which came out quickly. Our coffee came out with no creamers, we had to ask somebody to get some. We put in our order with the server. After about 10 minutes our kids got a little antsy so I went up to the host stand to ask for crayons to color on the table. They said they were out of crayons waiting on an order to come in.
We continue our wait for food. We waited another 30 minutes as we watched tables near us slooooowly getting their food. Our server came by and let us know ours was coming right up.
The food came out after 40 minutes or so it came out, but the kids meals were behind. No big deal. They came out and they had the incorrect sides (sausage instead of bacon). Again not a huge deal and the manager corrected it. Also the God Bless Texas came out with no eggs on it (over easy). They had to quickly cook up and bring out the eggs while the meal got cold as everybody else ate. Again not a huge deal, but just another thing delayed or wrong. The toast came out with no butter (again corrected by staff).
Luckily the food was delicious. Just like I remember it with delicious fluffy pancakes and incredible biscuits and gravy.
I don’t know if it’s new management or what, but our experience was pretty poor. Not sure even their food can give me reason to endure...
Read moreI came here with my family and this place did not disappoint. On the outside, it didn't look like much but its a massive place. The waiting area is quite big because there's always a massive queue to this place. If you wanna be seated quickly, you should enter the waitlist. When I arrived there, I was told that it was gonna be a 25-30 minute wait but we only waited 15 minutes before we were seated.
The waiter was so nice while he seated us. We ordered our food and received it in just 10 minutes. We bought the onion rings and loaded Queso fries. The onion rings were extra crispy and was salted evenly that went very well with the jalapeno ranch. The Queso fries looked amazing and smelled even better. There was no way I'd eat with a fork so I grabbed some with my hands and it was a delicious gooey mess. The cheese, the Queso, the ranch and the beacon bits melded together and melted in my mouth. 2 minutes later, the fries were gone.
For mains, we ordered the BLT Sandwich with french fries, pork chops with hash browns and caramel apples, chicken fried chicken with fried okra and grilled chicken with the house salad, chilli and fried okra. The sides were alright, I wouldn't order them again. Only the hash browns and house salad were good. The mashed potato was flavourless and a bit chunky, the apples were so sweet you couldn't taste the apple anymore and the fried okra was unseasoned and soggy. The chicken fried chicken was so crispy and tender it's like a flavour bomb went off in my mouth. The grilled chicken was juicy on the inside and well seasoned. The pork chops were perfectly cooked, not too hard and not too soft. The BLT sandwich was really good and balanced. There wasn't too much lettuce or tomato.
We finished off with their bourbon Pecan pie. The pie was very flavourful with the perfect amount of sweetness and a tingle of that bourbon. The chopped pecan on top contributed greatly to the texture. I regret not buying another pie. I will definitely be...
