TL/DR: Meh product, rude service, worth it to drive to Leander for better experiences
This place is the best place for donuts in LH, but they aren’t very good (2.5/5 on the quality scale - but the other option in town is just plain bad). The donuts are too sweet and sometimes stale, the kolaches are fine. Nothing to write home about.
However, today I had an experience and I likely won’t be back. I came through at 6:35 and no one was there or in line, but I was on my way to work. I ordered three kolaches and a Bavarian crème. I don’t typically order Bavarian crèmes or filled donuts so I really just don’t know what this donut is supposed to look like. But I got to the window and ordered and the person there also didn’t know what they looked like. They asked was it round or long? And what filling. I stated the Bavarian crème, but I don’t know what they look like here. They just restated the question at me slower as if I didn’t understand it. I again said, “I really don’t know what it looks like at your store, I’ve never ordered it before. Ever, even elsewhere. But it’s okay, forget and just give me the three kolaches.” They said okay and rung me out and I thought it was all cool, I’ll eat a protein bar and get my partners kolaches. I don’t even like their products anyway tbh. But again, LH has limited options. However when the younger girl (late teens/20s) came back she was rude, shoved the kolaches at me and I almost dropped them and the window slammed shut on me before I could ask for napkins. I wouldn’t have tipped if this is how I was gonna be treated.
With peace and love, you work there not me. I do not know your products and I wasn’t trying to be rude declining the donut, it just was not worth the effort to Google it myself and play detective for this employee who arguably should be trained to know what products they are selling. But it’s cool, I just won’t tip or shop at this store anymore.
Anyway, if you made it this far. Here’s the real tea. Drive to Leander, go to monster donut. The donuts melt in your mouth, the spinach puff IS something to write home about, and the staff is beyond kind and it’s all family owned.
I will be driving out of my way to avoid this store...
Read moreI stop by here occasionally with my kids on the way to school, and the donuts are always great. However, the payment process could be improved. Currently, employees take your card, insert it into a payment device, and then hand you the device—clearly expecting a tip. This leaves customers awkwardly holding a heavy credit card device with no convenient place to set it down.
Tipping in a drive-thru for simply placing a few pre-made donuts in a bag doesn’t make much sense, especially when the fast-food drive-thrus don’t require it going in both ways on hwy 29. The only comparable place that does this is Starbucks, where employees spend time crafting made-to-order beverages.
A simple solution would be to add a small ledge at the window for convenience or, better yet, have employees complete the transaction themselves—processing payment, selecting "no tip" as needed, and returning the card directly. While tipping may be more appropriate for in-store service, it feels unnecessary and inconvenient in the drive-thru, especially for someone...
Read moreWe tried Grand Donuts today in Liberty Hill, Texas for the first time. I will give them kudos on their glazed donuts. Very good. I did not care for the chocolate or strawberry icing. We tried donuts, twists, eclairs, biscuit with bacon egg and cheese, a mix of breakfast tacos and kolaches. The eclairs were very good and full of cream. The biscuit sandwich was good, but the egg, cheese and bacon taco was terrible. It had a bad/vinegar smell that was overwhelming and we ended up throwing those away. The kolaches (ham and cheese) were also good and the bread was excellent! The ham was the rolled kind in the center with a little cheese. All in all, I would get a dozen glazed donuts again. The rest...
