This place has gone down hill fast. My LAST time there went like this:
I get fish and a sweet potato. My wife got a strip steak that came with onions and cheese and a Sweet Potato. We both got rolls and soup. Our server comes out with my coffee and forgot the cream. No big deal. He leaves to go get the cream. He comes back, wife needs silverware. Off he goes. We wait what seems like a lot longer for our food then what you'd think based on a half-empty restaurant. Well...
Our food arrives. I didn't get tartar sauce for the fish, he takes off to go get it. I wait, annnd wait. He comes back. By that time we notice the Wife's steak didn't have the onions on it like the menu showed. That's what sold her on the strip steak. He goes to get her some onions. Before he goes, my Sweet Potato didn't have the brown sugar. Her's did...so how'd that happen. In the process of dumping brown sugar on one...keep going. Nope, mine was without...By this time we don't know what's worse, the cook forgetting these items or the server not catching what's missing before we do. I point out the Brown Sugar omission. "Oh, you want brown sugar?" Yeah, sort of COMES with a Sweet Potato"
He leaves to get the onons, forgets the Brown Sugar, leaves, comes back. Everything look good? "We need our rolls." Rolls? "Yeah, we both ordered rolls. "Oh, you want rolls?" Yesssss we ordered them. Off he goes. Comes back 4 or 5 minutes later with Rolls just for the wife. Um, where's mine? What? I ordered rolls too, remember? Oh, be right back...
By this time we're eating our food in stages. Wife drinkes her tea, waits for more water, and waits, and...sigh. Then we notice we never got our Soup! Okay where is he? Wait, wait, wait....food has been eaten. He comes back to see if we want dessert. We point out we never got our Soup...oh and the wife go fruit as a side dish and the fruit looked like the mushy expired soggy scrapings from the container.so she didn't eat her fruit....by this point it is so rediculous we're having a hard time keeping up with the mistakes.
We get our soup. Okay, this is our dessert, we want to get out of here. He's gone. We get up and leave, not happy with the food, the mistakes and having to constantly point out what was missing on our order. Now, we did complain to the hostess as we went to pay and she said..."You're not the first one to complain today. Let me get the manager"
We tell her everything, she's covering her mouth in amazement, apologizes profusely and said the server will be sent back to strictly cook. I am assuming the previous complaints must of been tied to him. Who knows. Maybe a server was cooking our meal and this was all an experiment with staff. Sucked all around...
We tried going back for just Breakfast once a week. Same deal. Hashbrowns loaded, come to me plain. Tea ordered, need sugar. Coffee ordered, where's my milk. Can we get jelly for our rolls? Hello? Hello? Getting service here is an effort that's not worth it. This place used to be awesome so I'm not sure why / how it was allowed to get so bad
But, that's my experence maybe you'll get a server / cook combo...
Read moreThe food is Great, as always. I wish I worked "under-cover" for Bob Evans. Some waitresses have good intentions, but they have no genuine understanding of customer service, yet they want to make good tips. Bob Evans has a menu that is at least 10 pages long. I barely have the menu opened, and my waitress wants my drink order. I request coffee. She's back in 90 seconds or less with a cup of coffee. (Nice) "Do you know what you'd like, or do you still need a couple minutes?" I replied," couple minutes, please." Again, back in less that 90 seconds.... Repeat of the previous encounter... Good Grief, Lady !!! Give me a chance to preview the menu. I don't eat here that often, so that I know what I want before I walk in the front door !!! Plus when you talk to me with a Loud and Pushy tone, it does anything 'But' make me feel comfortable and welcome. I enjoy having a quiet, relaxing meal, not being talked down too. My waitress may have been in a hurry, and thought her approach exhibited great customer service, but, believe me, it was less than "down home, country hospitality". Turning a quick table, and usher 'em out, like steers in a cattle yard, doesn't earn stars and compliments from me. I don't have much money. As a matter of fact, the only reason I was at Bob Evans today is because I found a gift card that was given to me a while back, and wanted to eat a nice meal out. I lost my wife last year, don't get out much, and often don't feel like cooking for myself. I'm Not a "geriatric grumpy old man",.... I just like being treated special once in a while. Obviously, your wait-staff needs to polish their tableside manner.... maybe management, too. I remember, "Bob Evans, Down on the Farm." This corporate giant didn't become what it is by only serving good food....
Read moreUpdated Oct 2023: In case you were wondering, this place still can't get it together. They did not even start on a carry-out order until we showed up to pick it up, at the promised time. So an hour after ordering, we finally have our food.... and an irritated, hungry kid. 👎🏼
Updated Sept 2022: if ZERO stars were an option, that is all the Bellefontaine location deserves. Service here is now nonexistent. They seem to have plenty of servers, who stand around and talk while the customer's meal sits in the window getting cold. The manager has no presence of the floor. What a train wreck and a blemish on the Bob Evans name. If you must eat at a Bob Evans, make the drive to a different location.
July 2019: With the exception of one or two servers, service here is terrible. For a carry-out order, that was supposed to be ready at 7p, I was not leaving this location until 7:20p. No one was greeting customers as they came through the doors. I watched a lady stand at the register, waiting to pay, for 7 minutes. I find it unbelievable when someone practically has to beg to pay! The assistant manager saw her standing there, on his way to seat a couple, and he didn't even acknowledge the lady at the register. I gave this location a 3 for the sole fact that there are a couple of exceptional servers on the wait staff. IF you are lucky enough to get one of them, you will have a terrific...
