Quite possibly the best pizza you'll ever have. If you didn't already know, Youngstown has not only some of the best pizza in the world, it has about 8-10 different kinds of pizza. We all know what New York style is, and we know what Chicago deep dish pizza is. But Youngstown has so many more varieties, include thick crust, Neapolitan, crisp crust (similar to New Haven style), Detroit style, and many types that are in between. What locals in the area know is that you will never get bored of the pizza around here because there's so much to choose from.
Uptown Pizza is at the top of just about everyone's list for a couple reasons: it has a fabulous combination of the caramelization of the cheese, a not-thick but not-thin crust which actually has a lot of flavor (even if it can be a little oily), and a distinctive, slightly sweet sauce.
Additionally, they only have what you might think is a limited choices because they have their standard 12" size and their personal size, the Little Joe, which is famous itself because it's probably the right size for a quick lunch (and has been part of a combination with a drink and small salad for decades at a very reasonable price).
Yes, most people come for the pizza, but honestly, their Italian wedding soup might be the best I've ever had. People who grew up in this area think that wedding soup is commonly found at any Italian restaurant (and even other places like a nearby Jewish deli!). But it's not true: living in other cities including Chicago, it has been very difficult to find it at most Italian restaurants, and usually at best it's served 1 or 2 times a week. Consider yourself lucky that you can get one of the best examples of this soup along with one of the best pizzas. Quite the combo. A cup or a bowl is available.
Lastly, you can still order other items on the menu. Their house salad dressing is very good, so I recommend that. But their spaghetti sauce and their meatballs are...
Read moreI've got new pics to post, and a deeper appreciation for Uptown Pizza on Belmont ave., technically in Liberty, OH. The pizza is always great, the staff is very good, can handle special requests no problems at all. And they have greens AND anchovies, and that's because their old school. It's also a great place to sit down to a meal here, they got draft beer, and their wedding soup is better than most, as good as any other place!
They have a few pasta dishes and salads that add to being able to have a nice sit down meal at The Uptown on Belmont ave in Liberty, great, great, place!
This was Mr. V’s favorite spot for pizza. This and Niccolinni’s in Wedgewood. I never ate here. Drove by it, a lot, finally came in a couple times. First, place is closed Mon and Tues due to employee shortage. Second, employees they got are great. And third, the wedding soup kills. The pizza has a great crispy bite with a nice chew. Your perfect Youngstown pizza. Also they got draft beer. And even after a couple hours crust isn’t still got a crisp crunch to it. Close to work, here’s to you Mr. V! Thanks...
Read moreAfter I paid for the order, I was disgusted to see a male employee right up front at his food station cutting up tomatoes with his bare hands and grabbing alot of them at once to throw into a container. The juice was running down his arm. Whatever happened to gloves? I don't want anyone making my pizza crust, putting on pizza toppings, or chopping up salad toppings without gloves. How gross!!! Hoping the boardman location isn't doing the same. Also was overcharged $4 and didn't realize it until I was all the way home and looked at the takeout menu. I will continue to stick with Wedgewood. BTW, the food wasn't for me I was dropping it off for a friend and they didn't even want the wedding soup after I told them what happened. Hope they don't roll their own...
