O'Toole's Libertyville — Restaurant in Libertyville

I came here with some friends and our server was great at the start and even cracked jokes with us. We were having a good time but out of nowhere our server James seemed irritated and annoyed. He didn’t come to check on us and we had to stop him a few times because he never once came by. Our drinks were empty for 15 minutes before we saw him come around and even then we had to stop him because he kept walking past us to his other tables and didn’t acknowledge us unless we spoke to him. After a short while we finished our food and waited for him to come around with the check but he never did. One of us went up to the host stand to ask for him and he came and dropped off the check. We wanted separate checks and had to flag him down again and he seemed irritated that we asked for separate bills. Once he brought our bills knowing we were ready to pay and leave, he ignored us for an additional 15 minutes and watched us from a window where the private party room was. He sat down and relaxed when he knew we wanted to leave and kept glancing over at us but just not caring. It made our experience kinda sucky. We are servers ourselves and we were disappointed we couldn’t say we had a great experience to tip him the 20% any server should get for just doing their job. Very lack luster service. Especially with him not being busy whatsoever and just relaxing and staring at us and getting annoyed for asking him to do his job. I get that everyone can have off days but it seemed so out of the blue since he was great at the start? I get everyone has off days but when working in the service industry sometimes you have to push through it otherwise it reflects poorly on your service and capabilities. First of all, I would like to say that my family and friends will NEVER come back to this restaurant. I apologize but I am really bad at remembering names, so I’ll just describe what they looked like. When we came in the blonde hostess let us know that she had put us on a list and a table would be ready in five minutes. Ten minutes went by and the brunette hostess had asked us if we had been put on a waiting list and when she looked for our name she let us know that we hadn’t been put on a list at all. She took our name, phone number, apologized for the mishap and let us know that we would have to wait a little longer for a bigger table to accommodate our kids and strollers. The brunette hostess kept constant communication with us and letting us know that our table would be ready soon. After about fifteen minutes we finally got to sit down and was ignored by our waitress for about another fifteen minutes. We watched as our waitress who was blonde as well, walk past our table several times and grab orders for people who had came in after us. She finally brought us water after we complained to the hostess. Our waiter took our order after another ten minutes and when she brought us our food with no silverware which we had to ask for, we never saw her again until she brought us the check. I threw my wife a surprise birthday party here on November 20th and it was amazing. Thank you so much to Brittany who was an awesome host that spoke with me more than multiple times to get all the details right. She has a great personality and thought of every detail down to have the blinds close dto the room so no one could be seen! She had great ideas and suggestions as well. Even took an impromptu meeting with me when I popped up at the restaurant unscheduled and helped me plan all the appetizers for the event. We had a good showing of about 30 people and appetizers came out promptly at 3:30 and there was nothing to be desired. The server, I think her name was Jessica (sorry ma'am!), was great. The reason I went with O'toole's, is because they were very flexible in the planning. The times were open, I could have made a personal menu but I chose to use their menu, they allowed individual checks/couples/families which other establishments wouldn't, and the room fee was very very affordable for a party of this size in comparison to other local and well-known places in the area that charge a room fee seven times the amount I paid at O'toole's. Meals were very good, for a party of my size they brought everything out in a reasonable time.
