Went here with a 6:00pm reservation on a Saturday in July. We parked in the back which, once we got into the restaurant, were told we were not allowed to do or else we would get towed. So one of us went to move the car. Once we got settled, the service was prompt and friendly. My husband and I are 48 and 50 years old; even with our reading glasses on and using our phone as flashlights, the menu was incredibly difficult to read. The font is odd and italicized and gray lettering. Just kind of annoying and felt disappointed; we really weren't counting on putting effort into reading the menu, ya know? We pulled up the menu on our phones; that was easier to read. We ordered the Rangoon; delicious. I had looked at the menu beforehand and was looking forward to trying their homemade Ramen. When I went to order this, the waitress informed me that they weren't serving this all summer. I asked for more time to look at the menu. My husband and son ordered the special: steak with chimichurri. They both thought it was good. I ordered Chicken piccata sonata; it was ok. We did not stay for dessert. The decor was ecclectic and interesting to look at. Lighting was unique and...
Read moreWow! This is a small quirky restaurant/bar in Libertyville. Upon entering this establishment, you can sense that something special is happening here! Marlon Brando grew up in this town and frequented this place, ages ago. We sat at the bar and Emma waited on us. She was friendly, kind, funny and really good at doing her job AND talking to all 12 of us customers at the bar. We started with the Panko battered artichoke hearts with a remoulade dipping sauce. The outside batter was perfectly crunchy and seasoned with a nice soft bite into the artichoke heart. Delicious! We enjoyed the special of the night, a battered white fish with Asian seasonings and chili dipping sauce, served with rice and a sesame oil flavored bok choy. Delicious!! I ordered the Ramen noodle soup with vegetables and chicken. Flavored it with chili sauce. So plentiful, I could only eat half of it. The broth of the soup was perfectly seasoned, with warmth and richness that hit the spot! I highly recommend this place ! It has a diverse menu and if you are lucky, Emma will be...
Read moreWe just dined at the Green Room for the second time. It was as good if not better than the first time, and we loved the first time. The food here is terrific and beautifully and elegantly prepared and presented. The menu was even more varied than last time with more choices. This time the four of us had the following appetizers: deep fried artichokes, mussels, and pate. Three of us had the specially delivered fresh haddock from Alaska fried in a beer batter with superb cold slaw salad. Another at the table had beef with pea pods and we all partook of the key lime pie (a little tart) and the famous brownies. Many of us have attempted to make some of the dishes that Maria has on the menu, but we cannot make them with her clever additions to what might seem to be standards. And we cannot repeat these with Maria's consistent excellence. And, you can't get the wonderful ambiance of a familiar neighborhood gathering place as you can...
