I recently had an incredibly disheartening dining experience at Main Street Social in Libertyville, and I feel compelled to share the shocking mistreatment we endured. Last Saturday night, my party of two had made a reservation for 7:00 pm. We arrived on time, and the hostess checked us in promptly, which initially seemed promising.
However, what happened next left us utterly stunned. As the hostess was about to lead us to our table, another couple of two arrived without a reservation. It was evident that the hostess was familiar with them, as they engaged in a lengthy conversation. What makes this situation even more appalling is that, not only did the hostess open a conversation with them, but he also proceeded to seat them at a table, completely ignoring us and leaving us standing by the door.
The couple that he escorted to their table looked at us with sympathy and acknowledged the rudeness of the situation. They were appalled by the hostess's actions, and they made it clear that what he had just done was exceptionally impolite.
Feeling humiliated and disregarded, I decided to approach the chef to express my concerns. Unfortunately, my attempt to communicate the issue fell on deaf ears, as the chef responded with indifference and a dismissive "ok."
This experience was not only embarrassing but also left us deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism and courtesy displayed by the staff at Main Street Social. No customer should ever be treated in such a disrespectful manner, regardless of party size or any other factor.
I strongly advise against dining at Main Street Social, as the blatant favoritism and appalling treatment we encountered are inexcusable. Our evening was marred by this incident, and we left the restaurant feeling disheartened and disrespected.
In summary, my visit to Main Street Social was an absolute nightmare, and I would discourage anyone from dining there. This establishment clearly prioritizes certain customers over others, and such unprofessional behavior is unacceptable in any dining...

Our strategy was to experience as much of the menu landscape as possible. This led us down the sharing path as the center of our table became the landing strip of a foodie's dream! The brussel sprout salad and famed 12 ounce Berkshire meatball were our app choices. Both so good and enough to whet our appetites along with our beer and wine choosing. When the huge portion of cauliflower mac & cheese arrived it produced an audible gasp from the collective four! The scrumptious crumb crust freshly timed in The salamander appeared piping hot and delivering an aroma that surpassed and announced its arrival. Easily enough portions for each, the texture was truly unctuous and velvety. The combination of cheeses and the savory tastes were simply delicious! Simultaneously, memories of the box-from-your-childhood elevated graciously to haute cuisine...that's all I can say!! And a question to the chef... Was that Coleman's mustard powder? We talked about that for at least 20 minutes.... yummy! The flat breads were highly recommended as well. We chose the mushroom to close out our apps. 8 large pieces in a rustic rectangular shape arrived to great fanfares from patrons around us. The bread had a crispy base and a cheesy topping decorated heavily with fresh sautéed mushrooms. It was delicious! Our other main was the gnocchi with pancetta in a cream base sauce. Clearly kitchen produced gnocchi by a Master, they were pillowy soft, smooth and perfectly boiled until they broke the surface of the water, removed and delivered to a pan to be bathed in butter and herbs. No, I wasn't in the kitchen; however, with one bite, one could only imagine the care and love put into creating such a dish! We all enjoyed this dish. The pancetta bringing the big flavors of bacon with zero smoke not as to over power the...
Read moreMain Street Social in Libertyville was perfect for a lively Friday night out. Craving mushroom risotto, I looked online and found Main Street Social was the closest option and highly rated, and it definitely delivered! While I opted for the mushroom risotto with duck breast and fig sauce myself, my husband's braised short rib was absolutely to die for – incredibly tender and flavorful. We started our meal with the lobster charred oysters, a definite must-try, a large chunk of lobster in every otster. The flavor combination was fantastic and they were perfectly prepared. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu, which was a delicious and classic ending to the meal. Their cocktails were also on point; I enjoyed a well-made Lemon Drop, and my husband declared his Manhattan excellent. Beyond the food, the service was top-notch, especially considering how busy they were. We were walk-ins on a Friday evening, and while the place was packed, they were able to accommodate us rather quickly. The staff was quick, attentive, and very kind, navigating the busy dining room with ease. The owner was also incredibly personable, checking in on us twice and thanking us several times for coming by. This level of hospitality really enhanced our dining experience. The atmosphere at Main Street Social is warm and welcoming, with a variety of dining options, including a dining room with exposed brick walls and comfortable seating, and a lively bar area. It's easy to see why this place is popular.
