Took the wife out for a date night yesterday after work. I’ve been having a taste for some good sushi and she’s always wanted to have me try Shakou Restaurants. As soon as we entered, this restaurant was beautiful to look at. Large crystal chandeliers are positioned throughout the entire establishment, accommodated with beautiful table placement and decor. This place definitely offers high quality, fancy vibes with an eye grabbing layout and outstanding service team. On the first floor, we sat at the sushi bar, watching what would seem to be a large team of Itamaes and Shokunins. These skilled artists work at a constant rate, preparing incredible variations of sushi and magnificently delicious dishes. As the plates were being sent out, we watched the masterpieces be taken away to be delivered to the tables throughout the restaurant. My wife and I were very excited for our experience. When given our menu, we were given a small silver coaster that had a QR code. We scanned it with our smartphones and began our journey through the menu. There were three types of sushi that we tried: Jalapeno maki rolls, Dragon Fire signature maki rolls, and Midori. Each of these dishes, along with ALL of Shakou Restaurants are prepared in house, providing incredibly fresh and delightful experiences within your mouth. Your taste buds will be dancing for joy and your tummy will be satisfied by the end of the meal. Each bite we took, our mouth was exploding with incredible flavors. The presentation was inviting and again, a work of art. This was by far the best sushi I’ve ever had so far and highly recommend. The only caution I have is to be prepared for an expensive experience. It’ll be a while until we go back, but when we do, it’s a wonderful experience. It’s an experience that’s worth trying at least once.

Come here often, has to say something because it’s been a more that 5 times this has happened. I hate to say this..the service is always cold and unfriendly at the bar, specifically by the few bartenders up stairs ( usually on Saturday nights..) can’t tell you the name because they don’t introduce themselves.. Employees are more concerned about the other employees sitting at the bar rather than paying attention to the customers. So fun! Talk about ruining your night. One time, I saw an employee (or random person) bring their own food and the bartenders were eating off the bartop this food item..hands all in the aluminum foil ( item was wrapped in it) and crumbing food out of their mouths and going back to making drinks….. as we are sitting there eating dinner … really unsanitary .. Hosts are always polite and welcoming. Food is okay! Probably not coming here again because when you go out to a restaurant , it’s for the experience ( not just “good” sushi). I hope they train their staff to be more enthusiastic and friendly. If you don’t like people then don’t work in service ( or expect getting tipped well). If the kitchen is open, why make your bar a cleaning station with rags and dish water..gross cleaning products while customers are sitting there eating their payed for meal (at a premium restaurant)….I get it ….you want to make them feel they have to leave….not cool.

We went to Shakou for dinner a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I can say that service was amazing - we were served by a new waitress ( she was still in training) but she did an excellent job providing perfect customer service. She was there when she was needed and provided space for us to have a great date throughout the evening. The food was on par with the service. We ordered miso soup, ahi tartar and salmon carpaccio for appetizers. For entrees we had diver scallops and jumbo shrimp dish and chicken teriyaki entree. Both appetizers and entrees were very delicious and we would definitely order it again. One thing I wanted to note that the scallop and shrimp entree is quite small, so make sure to get an appetizer (I was glad we did, because the scallop entree alone would not be enough for dinner for me - it is so good though I could probably eat two of those 😂). For dessert we had chocolate lava cake a la mode and chocolate pyramid - both were pretty good, but lava cake is definitely the winner between the two. Overall, I definitely recommend this place. It has a city vibe to it, so louder than most suburban places, hence attracts younger crowd. 5 starts 👌

The food was okay. Shumai soup..excellent! The calamari and bulgogi eggrolls were okay and maki roll was edible, it could be because I asked for the tuna to be subbed with salmon but I don't think so. They also don't have many raw salmon specialty maki rolls, which is why I asked to switchout the tuna for salmon on the Shakou Roll. I would have come back to try some other selections but the service is what really turned me off. Let's just say they are not consistent with how they treat their customers and that's just not acceptable to me. I dine out to have a great dining experience, which inlcudes atmosphere, service and cuisine and this is why I gave two stars. They failed in the first two areas and the food presentation was good but the taste was just okay. However, even if the food was amazing, I won't patronize an establishment where I am treated less than. I work hard for my coins and I am an excellent tipper (still tipped 20%, even though server was not good at all), so when I spend, my expectationisnto get my money's worth.

We went to Shakou for a date night and found it to be a great spot for a night out. The decor was lovely and unique, with low tables and couches, stools at the bar as well as normal height table and chairs available for seating on both the lower level and the raised loft level. An elevator is available to get to second floor. We ordered The Dragon and Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini and found them flavorful, not too strong and the drinks cost $13 a piece. For an appetizer we got the Goyza dumpling pictured below. For our meal we ordered two Signature Maki, The Dragon Fire and The Black Widow; the sushi was great. Nice flavor, and a special treat for the two of us. They also have a rewards program that you can sign up for online for special offers. Our server was helpful and sweet during the meal as well as helping us get signed up for the rewards.

This was my first time here and it was a blast! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. They are great at anticipating when you need something or a refill! The ambiance is relaxing, the lights are dim, and the music is upbeat. We got lucky and got to sit in a private nook on a balcony overlooking below us. We sat one cozy couches and it felt like we were VIPS! The food was amazing! Best Japanese food I've had in a long time. It was reasonably priced and it a great place for a date night. The smell of the food was intoxicating! I couldn't resist from digging in as soon as she put our food down. I cannot wait to go back here!
