Been here numerous times. They have a sign stating that the business is short-staffed so be patient and that just leads you to believe that service is going to be shotty. It was not. I've never had a bad experience besides things taking a little longer way before that sign was ever added. It is a diner, down to earth. You might get stared at because the locals do not recognize you. There's a countertop diner with the swivel seating and a dining room. They are notorious for their roast beef mashed potatoes, meatloaf mashed potatoes and turkey and gravy type dinners, breakfast more of an egg's, potatoes of your choice, meats and toast. I like to get a strip steak (8oz) and eggs breakfast. They received a four-star because my steak was not quite done like I like it. There's no problem in returning to my waitress to get corrected. They serve breakfast ANYTIME. Coffee is fresh. Basic creamer. Daily Special, Lenten Special and homemade desserts 🎂. I have eaten the pies as well as the cakes and they were all delicious. The bathroom is so, so... Generally clean and supplied with the proper amount of toiletries. The waitress was kind enough to show me what somebody else's dinner look like when I was interested in ordering the fish. They are attentive but not overbearing. Parking is along the front of the store and handicapped access is available. It is definitely unpredictable as to exactly how busy it will be. When there are local events in ligonier and on the weekends it becomes a favorite site for locals and the visitors of the area.

Growing up as a kid this place was a special place my family would visit often when we were in the area. My family and I stopped for Mother's Day and to my surprise things weren't too great. The toast on my turkey club had been burnt, my wife got chicken strips and they we dryer than my hands in the winter months, my sister's food was alright but for my mom's sandwich they forgot to ask what bread she wanted so they gave her losey white.Overall they should pay more attention to their food and step up the quality like I remembered as a kid. (Yes I was just a picky then) and lastly they should invest in new plates. I could imagine that the current plates were original to the dinners opening date many years ago judging by all off the faded knife marks on the once egg shell colored plates now with a faded touch of gray from multiple years of knife marks which makes the surface appear dirty.

Not worth the hour drive we took to get there. Ordered a drink. Pop. Got a glass of ice and a can of pop for $1.79. Heard the meatloaf was great so we ordered that and a tossed salad. The salad was plain and all iceberg lettuce including the hard bitter pieces. It had two slices of cucumber, two plum tomatoes and a few slices of onion. My hubby had one green pepper with his. The meatloaf meal had AMAZING fries. The gravy was delicious. The meatloaf altho it was good it tasted like it could have been a meatball or chili meat or spaghetti meat. It tasted nothing like a meatloaf. Ordered pie. Cherry and blueberry. Nothing great. More glaze filled than fruit filled. All together everything was just under $26. Might be an ok place for locals but not worth the effort to travel any distance to get there.

Stepping into Ruthie's Diner feels like coming home. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with a warmth that's becoming increasingly rare, and it's clear that exceptional service is a top priority here. But let's talk about the food – because that's where Ruthie's truly shines! Whether you're in the mood for a classic diner breakfast that hits all the right notes, a hearty lunch, or a comforting dinner, Ruthie's delivers. You can tell that everything is made with care, and the portions are generous without being overwhelming.

The staff at Ruthie's deserves a special shout-out. They are attentive, friendly, and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. My server made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. It's clear they work as a well-oiled machine, ensuring that every table is taken care of efficiently and with a smile. If you're looking for genuinely good food served with a side of genuine hospitality, look no further than Ruthie's. It's a place you'll want to return to again and again. Highly...

Let me start by saying the lady who owns this establishment is a very nice person. I would eat breakfast here many years ago often before work. Always received a home cooked meal for a great price. So my wife and I decided to stop in for lunch while traveling through the area. I was not expecting the experience to be as bad as it was.

The service was fine but the food was less than mediocre. I could not believe how tasteless the roast beef was, dry and flavorless, masked only by gravy and a hand full of fries. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich, with tomato and lettuce, but found it the same, dry with not much flavor. Even though the prices were still reasonable, the meal was not worth what we paid.

The worst part was the ongoing battle we had with flies, buzzing about our food, landing on cup rims and plates. I have never eaten in a restaurant with more insects flying around a table. It was sad to see what was once a great restaurant reduced to...
