We moved from the deep south a year ago and have been looking for good Mexican/Tex-Mex since then. We've been to Mexican restaurants in at least four counties around here and have only been disappointed until now.
1942 Tacos and Tequila is as good as an above average Tex-Mex Mexican restaurant in the South. They aren't afraid to use spices! I'm not referring to heat, which was mild/average. They actually use plenty of all the other spices that are missing from every other restaurant we've tried.
I had Chile Verde and my wife had Tilapia and Shrimp. Chile Verde was tangy with that good sour bite. Tilapia and shrimp were prefectly cooked and had that base blackening seasoning that's so critical. The rice actually tasted right and the refried beans were perfect with tons of flavor. The salsa was fresh and the best we've had. Cheese dip was right.
We're still looking for a Taqueria, which is a different sort of food.
This is Tex-Mex comfort food, it's not fancy, it's the good stuff. So happy we can stop looking. Y'all need to try this so they can stay...
Read moreI understand it’s a busy day of the year but I have gone out to Mexican restaurants across the state every year for more than 10 years now & I have never had such a horrible experience!! our waitress was rude. she got my drink wrong & then didn’t come back to the table for like 15 minutes so I had to go up to the bartender to ask for it to be corrected. our food finally comes out but again another problem. mind, I even pointed to items on the menu & made eye contact while ordering to try & help avoid issues. my daughter’s food wasn’t even brought out & our Al A Carte enchiladas was wrong. I ask for a manager to address this & again while pointing out what the menu says (3 enchiladas) when I order he states it doesn’t matter it’s what you want- 1 or 2 or 3. uummm sir then why is there a set price for an order of 3?!? The check comes out & there is an extra $3.50 charge on it. Which at this point I didn’t even dispute I just left! Horrible 1st experience!! Sad because I was so looking forward...
Read moreI don't always write reviews, but it has been over a week and I am still thinking about how incredible my meal at 1942 Tacos and Tequila was. The service was fantastic right off the bat when we walked in, and our server was kind and accommodating in every way. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We were brought chips and salsa immediately, and the salsa was absolutely fantastic. I am vegetarian, so I got the veggie fajita dish. The price was completely affordable (unlike most places at the moment), but the food was so tasty it was priceless. My meal was my favorite thing I have eaten all year! Every single part of my spread was 10/10 which is super impressive considering there were so many different foods to try (hot veggies, mexican rice, guac, refried beans, fresh veggies, corn tortillas, and more!). I live 4+ hours away, so I sadly cannot make a trip back here easily, but I am so pleased with my experience that I had to write...
