The restaurant has a classic diner vibe, offering seating at the counter, in booths, and at tables. Our initial greeting was lukewarm, and we didn't quite feel the 'Sunshine' mentioned in the cafe's name. We had the freedom to choose our seating, and we felt most comfortable in the less crowded extended seating at the other end of the restaurant.
We were barely seated before being asked about our drink and food choices. When we requested more time, we were given plenty of it. When our server finally returned, we ordered the "Duce," which included eggs cooked in any style, pancakes or French toast, bacon or sausage. We also ordered the Breakfast Tacos with Potato Cakes and a side of Lemon Dressed Mixed Greens made with their in-house dressing.
The food was mediocre at best. The pancakes were pale and only became palatable with the addition of syrup. The "seasoned" chicken in the Breakfast Tacos lacked flavor, and we had to rely on the provided Frank's Extra Hot sauce to enhance the taste. The Lemon Dressed Mixed Greens dressing was lacking in lemon flavor; it seemed like plain oil with barely detectable seasoning. The Potato Cakes were the highlight of the meal.
We were given our check while still eating, without being asked if we needed anything else, and there was no indication that our service would continue. We are unlikely to return to this establishment, as the service seemed to favor the regular patrons, and the food provided a...
Read moreCan't express my disappointment enough. Friends bragged this tiny place up. First, we are in line to be seated as a party of 3. The party behind us was 3 young ladies. A booth becomes ready and the young female waitress sees her friends in line and waves them past us and seats them in the booth, forcing us to wait for the next booth. Eventually we were seated in a tiny booth. My wife and i are average size and we were not comfortable on our side. I cant imagine a couple larger adults. We shared the one menu. No one offered additional menus. Apparently there was only one person talking orders and we waited a long time for her to stop at our table. Most people were eating so i am not sure where she was. The food didn't take long. The waitress that took our order brought it out and served it to the booth next to us. She realized her mistake and picked it up and brought it to us. Im not sure if they touched our food or not. I should have refused it but i was already tired of being there. 2 orders were not correct and had to be fixed. Also, the french toast had raw egg on the side of every piece of bread and the crispy (well done) home fries i asked for were just as white as everyone else's. The only redeeming quality was the large serving sizes. The food was average as far as taste but the fact that we were squeezed into this tiny booth did not allow me to relax and enjoy it. I just...
Read moreRestaurant was blasting the strangest music ever heard. It was like some 80s demon carnival music. It was so loud, I couldn't hear the person sitting across from me, only 24 inches from my face. However, the waiter was kind enough to turn the music (if it can be called music) down a little bit.
The food was extremely generic. We ordered breakfast; omelettes and french toast. The presentation and taste was as if the food was prepared in an old motorhome while camping. The French toast had only been dipped in batter when cooked, leaving the center to remain looking like fresh Wonder Bread right out of the bag, and the omelette looked like it was made with egg beaters.
We wanted to go to a classic diner, and this place was it. The environment was great, only ruined by the loud cult noises pumping through the speakers. The food was bland, but recognizable.
All in all, it's an adequate little diner to suffice hunger. Actually glad a local place like this survived the pandemic. I hope they continue to do well as I support small businesses. Just not a place for me is all. Clearly others like it as it's still thriving. So I wish...
