We’ve dined in at Veekoo (RoFo) once every few months for years and get takeout there even more frequently. I’ve never reviewed it but feel compelled to based on our experience a few weeks ago and our collective experiences during the past 1-2 years.
My primary complaint is that every time we’ve dined here in the past couple years, the wait staff rushes us SO much. It’s always that way, even when we’ve dined with a larger group of family/friends. But the rushing us through our dining experience is at its absolute worst when I dine there with just my 8-year-old daughter. It’s like we get treated as if we don’t deserve to have a relaxed, full dining experience just because she’s a child (who actually happens to be a budding foodie and does restaurant and food reviews on her YouTube Kids channel). It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s not like we’re hanging out for excessive amounts of time chit chatting, taking up a table that others are waiting for. And there’s no discernible reason for it because when it’s just her and me we’re there on the earlier side for dinner when the restaurant is maybe half full at most. Even if we’re there during peak dinner time, the level of rushing is uncalled for and very disrespectful of the customers’ experience.
But like I said, in the past year or so we’re rushed regardless of our group size. It’s really poor form as far as customer service goes but it gets even worse because they actually act annoyed about it if we resist the rushing. I think the absolute longest we have ever been in the restaurant was 1.75-2 hours, and that was with a group of 8 when we kept ordering more and more food (and were speeding a lot of money), and it was a very special, once in a lifetime occasion celebrating my brother’s completion of his doctorate.
From briefly perusing the reviews here, their staff rushing dine-in customers seems to be a pretty common complaint and it’s been happening for some time now. They say they take the feedback and pass it on to their staff, but clearly they are not doing that—or if they are, the staff either isn’t getting the message or they just don’t care, because the ubiquitous rushing continues. For me, it’s happening to the extent that Veekoo will be very low on my list of options for dining now (and for take out for that matter; I don’t want to support a place that is so disrespectful of patrons’ dining experience). That’s a shame, because otherwise I really enjoy the food, as do my husband and our 8 y.o., but last time she and I were there, she even complained despite me not saying a word about it. Specifically, she said: “It seems like they don’t want us here.” Bingo, kiddo—they want our money, but once you’ve ordered and money’s on the bill, they want you out as fast as possible. It’s almost all the wait-staff we’ve had, not just one or two.
As far as the food goes, we’re not going to do a complete boycott (yet), because in all honesty, everything we’ve ever ordered tastes delicious (minus the green tea ice cream, which I otherwise like, but they don’t tell you it’s actually a mochi on the menu). I took one full star off because in the past year or so the serving sizes for the amount you’re paying has gone downhill. In particular, the slices of fish for sashimi and sushi items are really slim now. I know prices of food have gone up across the board, but the meager slice of fish you get while paying a premium for it is getting kind of ridiculous now. The cooked entree sizes have decreased as well. While the taste-quality of the food is still very good, Veekoo isn’t doing very well in the value department.
So, we’ll probably go to or get Veekoo once in a great while now if we’re really jonesing for sushi, but we’ll be sticking to the rolls. Veekoo used to be the only half decent place around for sushi, but now that our area has had a boom in development, there are plenty of other sushi places nearby that get rave reviews. I think it’s time for us to...
Read moreMy husband, daughter and I ate here today, March 22, and made it for their lunch special which is Monday through Saturday from 11am to 3pm. We got here a little after 2pm and left a little after 3pm. We were the only three in the restaurant from the time we got there to until we left.
The sushi was good and service was fine, but there were a few things that guarantee we will not be back to Veekoo in Royersford.
We ordered the steamed chicken dumplings, toro sushi on special for the day at $14 for two pieces, flying fish roe sushi, and four orders of their maki special which is $10.95 for two rolls from a list of selected sushi rolls. That means we would get a total of eight rolls. All of it tasted really good.
What we didn’t like was that the waiter was vacuuming next to and around our table as we were eating. Who does that? Why? Couldn’t you wait until after the THREE people in the entire restaurant paid and left?
Next was our bill. When we received our bill it was for $98.05. The waiter flashed it to me really quickly, I said ok and he came back with the receipts to sign. I looked it over and saw that we were being charged full price for everything. We were not given the Maki Special price for the rolls we ordered. Granted we left a little after 3, but ALL of our orders were in BEFORE 3pm. I flagged our waiter down and brought it to his attention and he said it was because we ordered them one at a time/one by one. That makes absolute zero sense. I mentioned again the Maki Special of $10.95 for two rolls and that it was until 3pm and so, he goes to the manager to talk about our bill. He returns and tells me that they changed it for me. Our bill came down to $77.06. I appreciate that they corrected and billed us correctly after, but felt like they were trying to cheat us.
Lastly, when we got home, I went to their website and looked at their menu available online. Our Maki Special rolls were supposed to come with Miso soup or salad. We were never given or offered miso soup or salad when we ordered or while we dined. Also, we were not given the full sushi menu. Apparently, there is another list of special rolls and we were not given that so I thought it interesting when a patron came to pick up their take out order that they had ordered the ocean roll. That roll was nowhere on the menus we were given. I tried to attach a screenshot of their menu available online, but for whatever reason it will not show up.
Needless to say, if we are ever in the area again we will not give our business to Veekoo for trying to cheat us. If you do decide to eat here, read the menu carefully and be sure to...
Read moreSaturday night was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever experienced. After 10mins of sitting in the booth the waiter finally came around. The waiter was miserable and barely made eye contact. We ordered Dim Sum and a sushi roll to start which were delicious. The waiter was moving so fast I never had a chance to ask for an ice bucket for the white wine we brought and we never received one. As we barely finish our appetizer our entrees arrive. My wife ordered sweet and sour chicken and I ordered the three delicacies . My wife’s chicken was extremely over cooked. It was tough and even smelled burnt .My dish was no better. The scallops were very chewy which’s means they were over cooked, the chicken was tough and each shrimp looked like a tightly curled “C” which usually indicates over cooked. The waiter never came to ask how everything is let alone check on us. We were brought the bill without asking if we wanted tea or dessert. We wanted tea. The experience used to be phenomenal here. Now it is how fast can they turn over tables. You are honestly better off ordering take out from your local restaurant then coming here. I see similar complaints over the months. Clearly nothing has been done about standards. They should have paid me for my time there. We will never eat from here again. My opinion is that this place shuts down for a few days to retrain each and every staff member on what the standards and customer service should be and work on quality control. We ordered a pizza on...
