We stopped by Salt on a chilly Saturday around 11am after walking the beach. It is located in the outlets, so not the quickest café to get to, but we found parking sort of behind the shops and walked. I could certainly see it being a bit of a pain to get to in tourist season as you may have to park far, so it might not be worth the effort if you were coming only for Salt. Otherwise, if you’re doing some shopping, I think it’s a great spot to stop for a snack or drink.
We ordered a latte and hot chocolate, plus a breakfast sandwich each. Drinks were ready within 5 minutes. I am picky about hot chocolate, and this was definitely not just a powder mix, so pleased with that. My husband said his latte was extra foamy (and exclaimed that's a good thing!).
While we waited, we wandered the shop. There were clothes, accessories, some home goods, lots of gift-y items, plus wine and snacks. It is definitely cute, and while not the cheapest, there were some unique finds that could be tempting. After about ten minutes we’d seen it all and then we were just standing there. They have a bit of seating, but not nearly enough for all the people there as it was more customers utilizing them as a café than a shop.
It ended up taking about 25 minutes. To be fair, they had warned us of a 20 or so minute wait, but it sure felt long for two sandwiches. I got the ham and brie bagel sandwich, and the result was not as yummy as the description. It was too much mustard and just a chunk of hard brie (where I’d expected it to be warmed and more melty), and the bagel itself was just okay…not bad, but just not all that great, especially after a long wait. I don’t recall what my husband got, only that we both felt pretty meh.
In the future, I would call ahead to order or if I just wanted to walk in, get a drink and a ready to go pastry. They do have some cute items if you are looking for a gift. I’d go elsewhere for...
Read moreIf it wasn't for the rude, inattentive, and impatient service the rating would be MUCH higher. I came in with a group of five people and we are all new to the location so we wanted to thoroughly read the menu and order what we wanted for lunch. The young, blonde woman was at the register, we ordered, she was incredibly rude, dismissive, and impatient with every one of us while ordering. While she was waiting for us to finish ordering, she decided a good way to show her impatience and irritability was to huff and puff, and have an extremely impolite, condescending tone to every question we asked. Every one of us in the group was unimpressed and felt unwelcome in the shop. If I was in charge of hiring, I would either reteach customer service to the young lady or rehire someone more deserving/better prepared to make customers feel welcome and want to come back. While waiting for the order she missed, she was incredibly rude to one of our group members who was waiting in the shop for the acai bowl. The worker told our guest to lock her phone (while she was communicating with people in the car about how rude she was behaving), the worker also completely ignored our guest standing near the register probably 4ft away for a solid 10 minutes. To put this long story short... food was awesome, however NOT happy with the customer...
Read moreOwner/manager responses to legitimate customer experiences, concerns and reviews are snide and dismissive. Way too much ego and zero accountability. Sorry, not sorry, there's nothing special about Salt EXCEPT for the inexcusable wait times for "artisan" and "made to order" average overpriced bagels and breakfast burritos. We've actually been to Stumptown so bragging about ingredients doesn't excuse failures at Salt. The menu offers nothing that takes 30 minutes to prepare no matter what excuses the manager and owners throw out there, including being "busy". It wasn't busy. We were going to spend more on breakfast until we were asked if we could wait 30 minutes for burritos, lol. We opted for a few pastries, wish we would have skipped those too - dry, tasteless, overpriced and by the time we discovered that we were already driving. Music was too loud, as others have said, and there isn't anywhere to sit and dine. So even if you eventually get your food, you'll have to stand around gobs of retail stuff made in China. Ya'll don't know whether you're a coffee shop/ restaurant or a retail store. And please, The prices are ridiculous. The bottom line, it wasn't worth the time and certainly not the money. You won't survive on one time customer visits, we...
