Review of Chicken Shack Lincoln Park, Michigan:
I recently visited Chicken Shack in Lincoln Park to pick up dinner for my family, and tried their 8-piece chicken deal called the "Shack Pack." The deal included 8 pieces of chicken, including 2 breasts, 2 wings, 2 legs, and 2 thighs. It also came with 2 sides of your choice and a 2-liter soft drink in a refrigerated display. For our sides, we chose Shack Potatoes and Coleslaw.
Let's start with the chicken itself. While it was good, I must say it fell short of being great. The flavor was decent, but it didn't have that extra wow factor I was hoping for. The chicken was cooked well, but it lacked a certain juiciness and tenderness that would have taken it to the next level. It wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't leave a lasting impression either.
We also decided to try the "Tenders Only" option, which came with five skinless boneless chicken tenders and one dipping sauce. We opted for Ranch as our sauce of choice. The tenders had a different breading, almost resembling a tempura-style coating. It felt as though they might have been dipped in the same batter as the fish, which gave them a unique twist. However, I found the tenders to be undercooked. It's important to note that medium-well chicken is inedible, and unfortunately, that seemed to be the case with the tenders. It was a bit disappointing, as it affected the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Moving on to the sides, the Shack Potatoes and Coleslaw were average at best. The Coleslaw, in particular, seemed like a generic store-bought product rather than something made in-house. It lacked the freshness and homemade touch that could have elevated the dining experience. The Shack Potatoes didn't have any standout qualities either, and while they were edible, they didn't leave a lasting impression.
One major drawback during my visit was the heavy presence of deep fryer oil smoke throughout the entire restaurant. It seemed that the air handlers were not effectively doing their job, which resulted in a haze and made it difficult to breathe while waiting for our order to be called out. This was quite uncomfortable and took away from the overall dining experience.
My experience at Chicken Shack was a mixed bag. While the chicken was good, it didn't quite reach the level of greatness I was hoping for. The tenders, in particular, were undercooked and lacked the desired texture. The sides, including the Coleslaw and Shack Potatoes, were average and didn't stand out in any way. Additionally, the heavy presence of deep fryer oil smoke throughout the restaurant was a major drawback. Overall, I left with a somewhat underwhelming impression...
Read moreI had never had broasted chicken until now, I was one of those morons thinking it was the same thing as fried chicken. My girl really wanted some broasted chicken, so we look where was still open, chicken shack was the only place that didn't close within ten minutes of checking, so we hop in the car, and head off into the night. I called ahead because I wanted to see if they would do an all dark meat order, and they said "of course". Great! When I got there I asked for a six piece dark meat box, the cheerful lady, unphased by how late we showed up said "oh you called a little bit ago" with a smile that went beyond the standard customer service pleasantries, it gave me hope for humanity. The guys behind the her dutifully filled my order in a flash all the while cracking jokes, and making the best of a closing shift. I get my food, paid, and left, taking my chicken home to see what the fuss was about. Now I wasn't enthused because I assumed, like a troglodyte, that it would be overly breaded, too salty, and overcooked like fried chicken usually is. I was wrong. I was so wrong I feel the need to atone my ignorance with every living god, and several forgotten gods known only to that weird guy that lives in the woods by the rouge. This chicken didn't taste like it came from the paltry bounties of this earth, it was the ambrosia stolen from on high, delivered to mankind to see us through the most tumultuous of tragedies. It was juicy, it was crispy, it made me angry that I wasted so much of my life not knowing this delicious creation was available just a mile and a half from my home. I was a fool, but this humble chicken has opened my third eye and will ultimately help me escape samsara. Also they didn't upcharge for an all dark meat order,...
