Really great traditional meat pies in a stand-up hot-water crust. What you get is the authentic taste of excellent meat. No frills, no fillers, no exotic spices. In a town with awesome Asian, African, and Latin fusion cuisines with genius chefs constantly reinventing your palate, Hartley’s brings you back home to the tasty meals your great-grandmother prepared in her kitchen. Think of it as New England soul food. Think of your great-grandfather pulling a warm Hartley’s pie from his overcoat pocket halfway through loading a ship with blocks of ice on the Providence waterfront. Be ready to visit Hartley’s. They are cash-only, with three narrow steps up from the sidewalk. They are only open until the early afternoon, and only a few days a week. There is no place to eat your pies, and no restroom, so take them straight home.

I have been coming to hartleys for almost 20 years and their meat pies are still the same. You’ve got three options, four on Friday. Chicken, beef+potato, pork, and salmon on Friday. That’s my personal rank order of favorites as well. Chicken is almost soupy in the best way. Crust is dense and flaky. If you know what you’re doing you can eat em in the car without making a mess. The inside is classic, the vibe is classic. Go as early in the day as possible, when they’re out of pies they close shop. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Best meat pies around! The pies are traditional and hearty-they remind me of pies that a bank customer “Mrs Savage” would make for us once a month! Every bit I think of her ❤️🎉

Okay so I've been in town for about 2.5 years now and I never stopped in. I'm not going to lie, I was intimidated to go at all.... I pictured the scene from a bad movie where the record scratches and everyone turns to look at me. So finally I'm driving by and I see the open flag waving in the breeze. I excitedly gather my courage and jump in. The place is TINY but so welcoming, the smell is amazing. But only to find out that they are cash only... I am devastated. But the owner was so gracious and nice about it. Didn't give me any problem and wished that I came back again soon. So naturally I go out to the car and I dig up all the money I can find and I find enough for one frozen pie. I run back in, again, and he was kind enough to give me one fresh pie for the price of a frozen pie... so that I could try it the way he intended! And oh my goodness, was it good! Highly recommended! Will stop by...

Hole in the wall… literally with its own old time charm and the best traditional English pork pies! Each pie brings back memories of 50 years ago when I had my first pie as a child. Juicy, peppery and a crust that can’t be duplicated. Best had warm right from the bakery though they don’t loose much after being frozen for a few months. The pork is my fav. The chicken is great too. The beef and potato is a close second. I have had the special seasonal salmon pie decades ago but it’s an acquired taste. Honestly this is a treat not...
