The donuts are good, but their social distancing practices are poor. I went last Saturday morning, the shop has room for no more than 2-3 customers at most trying to keep 6ft distance (one at the counter, and 2 customers max waiting behind). An employee or friend of the lady working behind the counter harassed me about standing closer to other customers to allow more customers to wait inside. Mind you, there is not enough room for more than 2-3 customers inside the shop and less when you have young families or groups of people waiting together. This older gentleman wearing a black mask had his mask off, drinking coffee sitting at a table inside. He asked me to move closer to a family waiting inside, I respectfully stated I wanted to give enough space for the family in front of me to social distance. Then when I let an elderly gentleman go ahead of me in line (so he wouldn't have to wait outside in the cold) he harassed me again about moving closer to other customers. I was 5-6 ft away from the people in front of me already. I then told him I would choose the distance at which I felt comfortable standing. Then I saw this man WITH HIS MASK BELOW HIS NOSE go into the back of the bakery where there are donuts exposed. Only when he left the back of the bakery and go back to his table did he place his mask over his nose. I have been going to Donut Hut for decades and I no longer will be going back during the pandemic. I would highly recommend that they place tape or stickers on the floor to help customers social distance and not feel intimidated or pressured to stand close to other customers. Also, I hope they read this review and ask that gentleman to mind his own business and keep his mask on, especially if he enters the...
Read moreIf you're running late, this joint ain't for you. If you're impatient, this joint ain't for you. If you have a weird addiction to sugar, this joint ain't for you. You follow me? This ain't dunkins and thank God for that. It's an indie donut shop run by elderly ladies and I love them for that. If you want mass produced overly sugary slop, go to dunkins, if you want hand crafted pastries presumably made from recipes dating back to Isenhower, come here. I can tell they don't use buckets of sugar to hide the fake oils they fry donuts in like they do in other shops, they use real butter and they throttle the sweetness so you are left with a delicious gem of a treat you can actually taste. I can't recommend their donut holes enough, the apple fritter has real apple bits, and their twists -- the whole reason I went there, are light as air, fluffy, and perfectly sugared. The price is fine for what you're getting, the service is as expected, like I said, if you're in a rush or used to teens zonked out on addy to get you in and out of a place in under a minute, this is not the shop for you. Do not come here if you're already running late or you're impatient. I saw someone complaining about the service bc they only have one person behind the counter and it's an old lady. This was not the place for them. They can get their teenaged uppers donuts from the mass produced chain shops and lose a foot to the 'betes, while I happily clog my arteries at a glacial pace, (maybe they even still use lard, could you imagine???) at Donut Hut....
Read moreI happened upon the Donut Hut after I found out our local bakery had closed. My son wanted to do donuts for his birthday and so I felt a local donut shop would be a great place to start. We found Donut Hut through Google Maps and made the drive to Little Canada. It was a weekday afternoon when we walked in. Two ladies were working and they were so friendly and happy to help. I personally am not a big donut eater so I relied heavily on their years of expertise to place our order. If you’re a first timer take a look around and you can tell this is a shop that has been around for quite awhile. They don’t need to impress people with a fancy interior. It is all about the donuts. There boxes piled to the ceiling prepped and ready for the next big day that clearly express that their donuts are loved.
We showed up early Sunday morning to pick up our order of 2 dozen donuts. The parking lot was busy and the line was through the door. At this point, I realized how beloved this bakery is. We got our box of donuts and opened them in the car. Wow! The assortment was beautiful and the smell was grand.
While I set the donuts up on a display for my son’s birthday I was in awe of the consistency of the product and how perfectly soft the raised donuts were. I couldn’t wait to share these with our birthday guests. Needless to say, many people had their first Donut from Donut Hut yesterday and I don’t think it will...
