Had my first experience at Sunflower Asian Cafe last night, I wish I could say it lived up to its recommendation but it was terrible; both the food as well as the customer service. I do not recommend eating at Sunflower Asian Cafe.
We ordered Crystal Rolls and purchased extra peanut sauce which is typically a thicker sauce with a light brown color & a slightly sweet yet peanuty flavor; this sauce was dark colored w/ a thin consistency and loaded with sugar, it had no trace of peanut flavor and tasted so sugary we couldn't use either peanut dip we purchased which ruined the 'Crystal' Spring Rolls altogether. Next, we ordered Sesame Tofu with the sesame sauce on the side. Sesame sauce should be a thicker, honey colored sweet sauce. The Sesame sauce they gave us on the side was also of thin consistency and dark colored, like molasses. We tasted it; it was bitter & very salty... but not sweet. Bc we ordered carry out & had to drive 20 mins each way to pick up & take home we did not go back to have them correct the mistakes last night, we cooked an alternative meal for our children and agreed we'd request them to remake our meals tomorrow.
What really motivated this review was the poor customer service, lack of professionalism as well as ability to problem solve and, ultimately, the downright rudeness I received in calling the restaurant to request they make it right and redo our order for tonight. I sent my SO with the receipt & let him know I'd call the restaurant so he could pick up our (hopefully) new & improved dinner on the way home from work. The man I spoke to was Marsel. He first asked me if I could bring the old food back in from yesterday and said he'd make new sauce to pour over yesterday's fried tofu. I told him we are honest people & have the receipt but threw the food & sauce out, plus, I paid for fresh-fried Sesame Tofu yesterday & never received it, not day-old refrigerated tofu with new sauce to pour on a day later which we'd need to make two 40 min round trips to retrieve in the end if we were to meet his demands. Marsel said to me sharply, even with the receipt, he "needs the old food and sauce back, ya know, just like you were doing a return at Walmart." We then began to argue about why this is nothing like a Walmart return, that it's Chinese food and I never got what I paid for yesterday. At one point I mentioned my kids were hungry last night & I had to make them a different meal bc even they wouldn't eat the food with the disgusting sauce they gave us. Marsel yelled at me, "JESUS CHRIST" when I mentioned my children. I no longer wanted to speak to Marsel and requested to speak to the owner. Marsel responded that she works 7 days a week but is currently at the grocery store. He took my number down & ensured she'd call me back. The owner, Anie, never returned our call.
I don't trust this place to cook food for folks in the community after this experience, they're not only incompetent at creating decent Asian dishes but also incapable of providing any level of quality customer service when a problem arises. They've lost a customer in me indefinitely, I do not recommend eating at Sunflower Asian Cafe as they don't mind serving food of poor quality; management will take your money without giving a second thought to customer satisfaction. Marsel mentioned he has to behave this way bc "things are slow," which, in hindsight, doesn't surprise me. A business cannot treat paying customers this way and expect to thrive. It's a shame bc we were excited to give...

Terrible service, after standing there for several minutes and being blatantly ignored by several servers. The staff member who came checked me out for my pick up order was so rude, unprofessional, dismissive and quite literally scammed me of my money. I was gifted a Visa gift card for $50, I opened it brand new out of the packaging and I spent $20 on gas right before coming to grab my food so I knew there would be the right amount to cover my meal and pay any extra balance with my card. She took the gift card, charged it, and said that there was only $8 on it (impossible) Proceeded to hand me a receipt that said '$8.32 balance remaining' I assumed maybe there was $8.32 left to pay and offered her my card, but she told me it only took $8.32 off my total. In utter confusion I told her, the gift card is brand new and I know there more money on it, she told me to come look at the Ipad that she was checking me out, I looked to see the same amount on my receipt and it said "balance remaining" She proceeded ran a new total for $28.36 ??? The math didn't even add up, but I didn't know what to do as she was getting even more impatient and short fused, so I told her to charge my card. She handed me a receipt that she actually filled out the tip/total information and added a $3.04 tip ??! and told me to sign it? I looked at her clearly confused because typically that part is filled out by the customer and she said it was included to my total already?
It all happened so fast and by the time I left I realized I had totally been scammed of the $30 that was left on my gift card and then changed on top of it. I'm baffled.
On top of this experience of theft, rude service, the food was completely mediocre.
I would not encourage anyone to give this place a dime of their money, based off of other reviews, scamming and coherencing customers into spending more money without their knowledge until it's too...
Read moreWe LOVE this place. Every time we go here, they remember us and they always embrace our family as one of their own. I enjoy more so that they have two menu's. One that has your typical 'Chinese Food' on it that most Americans are familiar with to cater to the masses. Then they have the secret menu I call it and that one has all of my favorites!! The Tri-fold menu is in Red. So ask for it. The Yellow Croaker steamed is so good and by far my favorite. Then there's the Crispy Pork Belly with Bok Choy that's amazing. Even 'chinese greens' on the menu which is snow pea tips sautéed in garlic and salt will have you never eating fresh spinach again. They also have Ah Choy and garlic which is also my favorite, they cook it perfectly every time. Ask them to make the greens spicy with garlic and they put red pepper pods in it and YUM!! The Boiled Spicy Beef or Pork is absolutely delicious if you love spicy food, put it over rice with a side of the greens of choice and you'll have a different experience than Ken did a few minutes ago off the Regular Menu. I love fish and I haven't had a bad fish dish on there secret menu yet. I will say i'm not a fan of their garlic preparations of fish, so steamed is the best option I've found for our pallets. The sauce they sautéed the fish in so good when it's steamed. The last fish I ordered was the Salt and Pepper Fish. It was a deep fried white fish in slices served with sautéed fresh red and green peppers with yellow onions and cilantro. I typically do not order fried foods as i feel it takes away from the fish i'm eating. Though I asked for a special side of hot oil and it pulled all the flavors together. Highly...
