David's New York Deli — Restaurant in Livonia

My quest to find a Cuban sandwich that is actually a Cuban sandwich is over! This sandwich is very very close to what I enjoyed in Florida for many years- It was prepared perfectly BUT I highly recommend the 1/4 vs half so that you can enjoy each layer of flavor- I couldn’t identify the Swiss on it because the pork/ham took over all other flavors-

The sandwich was pressed resulting in a crisp/ crunch chewy bite- I would prefer they wrap the sandwiches in paper vs putting in styrofoam to go, as the styrofoam / heat steams your sandwich- if I had a longer drive, it would have gotten soggy and wouldn’t have been good- It’s pricey- $14 NY size and nothing included- Almost $11 for a regular- But you can tell high quality and preparation so I won’t grumble- This will be a treat here and there😊

The fries were over cooked and way too salty ( and we like salt)- we couldn’t wipe or shake off the excess salt-

I’m not sure if he gave me a small side accidentally but I requested a side of potato salad ($2) and I got a very small maybe 4oz container- It was tasty but my friend thought it was either too salty or had too much mustard flavor-We each got two bites😄

Post Covid- didn’t have to wear a mask- but would have if they required it- The only thing that raised my eyebrows was the not washing /disinfecting hands between orders, touching many different objects, items and then handling food, containers…and no hand cleaning- BUT they did wipe down my debit card before handing it back to me… with a towel that wiped other debit cards 😄

My husband and I live in California, but were back in Michigan for his mother's funeral. We wanted to provide some food for the visitation the day before the funeral and since we don't live there I just started Googling places. I found David's New York Deli, it had good reviews and the pictures of the food looked great! We needed this food on a Sunday and I saw that they were closed on Sundays. I decided to call and ask anyways. I spoke to the owner, Sandy, and she was incredible! She said that even though they were closed her team would be happy to make us some sandwiches and pasta salad. Now that act of service would have been enough for my five start review, but not only was all the food prepared and ready to be be picked up on time and not only were Sandy and the young man who made the sandwiches incredibly kind, but the food was FANTASTIC! Every single person at the visitation asked me where we got these sandwiches! They were all writing down the name of this restaurant because they had to go and eat there. Was just driving past and seen Hot Corn Beef in bright red letters, I admit that had caught my eye. Did a quick turn around and then went back, as I walked in I noticed the menu on the wall, finally I don't have to say hey, can I have a menu please. I was greeted upon arrival and I then just explained the type of sandwich I like and if I could have it made that exact way. Politely I heard "Yes" everything was set for my order and I began to explain how I had never been there before. Names were politely exchanged, my order was ready and even called by my name. I walked in with a little something different in mind and left out with a enormous sandwich and smile on my face. The sandwich was so incredible and delicious, pictures didn't make the cut.
