Worst experience I have ever had a restaurant. We have come here in the past, not for a while, so we thought we would try it out again tonight. Awful!! We didn't even stay for dinner. We were there for an hour and a 1/2, sat in the upstairs deck. It is a nice cool night so we opened the windows around us, a server came by and scolded us and the table next to us for opening the windows. She slammed them shut and LOCKED them, just in case we had any ideas to open them again. I ordered a lemon drop martini, after 20 minutes the server brought a blueberry lemon drop because that was what was on the menu. I sent it back and waited another 20 minutes for a lemon drop martini. We ordered an appetizer which took over a 1/2 hour to come. Mind you, it wasn't that busy. We realized that we may never actually get dinner here tonight at that moment. The app we ordered, bacon wrapped scallops, were awful, tasted like the frozen ones you get from Costco, which aren't bad if thats what you want when you come to a restaurant and they literally just poured maple syrup all over them. My husband asked for them to put the football or baseball game on, after watching the server click through the channels and realizing that they had NO service to any of the sports channels we realized that the game was not going to happen either. We asked for the check, they brought us a check and charged us for the blueberry martini I never ordered. We asked for a new check, take that off. We got a receipt for an "over payment." I have worked in hospitality as has my daughter and we have NEVER seen this done. We asked for a revised check with what we actually ordered. Finally we got it and were able to leave. BTW, at one point my husband asked for a second glass of beer which never came, we cancelled it. I will say that the server was very gracious during this...
Read moreI don't love posting negative reviews on restaurants. I usually just eat my meal and call it a day, but I've been here probably a dozen times and I'm absolutely baffled by this restaurant.
The positive is the atmosphere is a throwback to some real New England history, showing antique photos of what the place used to look like, and the service staff is always friendly. Those are huge positives that begrudgingly push my review up from 1 star to 2.
But the food is so bad I wish I could give negative stars for that. It's boring and bland at best, and borderline inedible at worst for far too much money. It's a chicken salad we ordered at the Coach Stop that arrived with uncooked chicken that was the final straw for my wife. She is now a vegetarian and doesn't meat at all...that meal was about 5 years ago.
Since then, because we have family in the area, and they love the Coach Stop (for reasons I cannot understand), I've been here for many dinners. The last time I ordered the Chicken Broccoli Alfredo because I figured it's hard to screw that up. It came with giant, uncut pieces of breaded chicken, and giant uncut and barely cooked pieces of broccoli atop the most offensively bland, unseasoned, and unsalted alfredo sauce I've ever tasted. This dish cost $21 plus tax. Again, this restaurant baffles me. Not in why they charge this much - running a restaurant is hard, so if you can charge this much to stay afloat, do it - but in why people continue to eat here.
The chairs are hard-wooden with no cushion and hurt to sit in for 15 minutes, so along with the terrible food, everything from your chest down will ache if you have a meal here. The layout is a mess, which I can forgive because it's a converted house to a restaurant, so they're trying to keep the "charm" is suppose, but this restaurant DESPARATELY craves a facelift: both in...
Read moreWe've been fairly regular customers at the Coach Stop over the years (stop in every few months or so) but had a horrible experience today. We waited for over 10 minutes at the hostess station and nobody came to seat us so we went upstairs to the tavern where you seat yourself. It took a little longer than normal to be greeted at our table and get our drink orders in, but not too bad, especially where we understand every place is dealing with staffing shortages these days. The issues started after we got our drink and chowder orders delivered and placed our main course orders. It took almost another hour from that point for a basket of bread to come and then another half our after that for the main courses to arrive - so 90 minutes total from getting drinks and chowders until main courses. I ordered a chicken parm sandwich with a vegetable side. When the sandwich finally came, the garlic bread was burnt and the chicken as dry as a bone (the sandwich was probably sitting under a heat lamp for some time while the rest of our order was completed since that should have been the quickest one to prepare). On the flip side the vegetable was cold - almost like they tried to microwave it vs. actually cook it. I took a bite of each and sent it back (I've never done that anywhere before) letting the waiter know what was wrong. The waiter said they would take it off the bill (gee thanks...). I would have been more understanding if not for an hour and a half wait, especially when it wasn't that busy, to get our orders. We've noticed the service and food quality degrading a bit over the last few years, but nothing like tonight. It was a nice run at the Coach Stop, but we will not...
