Dolce Bakeshop — Restaurant in Long Beach

My fiancé and I were searching for a bakery to make a cake for our wedding and decided to give Dolce Bakeshop a try.

First, the good: the cake that we sampled during our taste-test was wonderful, especially the homemade icing. Unfortunately this is where my praise of their business ends.

First, when I inquired about a taste-test, no mention was given of the $20 fee they charge for this- we were informed only after we finished the taste-test. I chose to look past this and we returned to sign the contract to place our cake order two weeks later. Admittedly this fee will go towards your order if, but not telling us of the charge until we were ready to walk out the door was questionable.

Second, upon putting down a nonrefundable $100 deposit, we signed our order contract (on a Saturday) and the owner told us she will have a copy of the contract sent to us by Monday. Monday passed and the contract was never sent. We followed up with the owner three times over the course of that week, and each time they made commitments via email or phone that they'd send us the paperwork at a given time/date, and after the third time that they did not keep their word we decided eat our losses and cancel our order to go elsewhere.

In full disclosure, the owner did send us the paperwork the day after receiving our cancellation notice, without acknowledgment of said cancellation. Even so, the lackadaisical approach to a simple administrative task and the lack of follow-up to the verbal promises to get us a copy of our contract was a disappointment and did not inspire any confidence in their ability to deliver what we agreed to on our...

I have given this place three tries...over the course of a few years. The first time, I arrived at my pickup time and had to wait for my cake to be finished. It was fine, I still got a cake and got to where I needed to go. Second time, I went to pick up a cake and the frosting was white and not green with blue drip as I had requested and the candy was sparse on the top and not full like the picture I brought in...got over that. Today, I go in to buy some treats because my son is graduating and just wanted to make a platter of goodies since his party isn't today but to have something nice for everyone to snack on. I spent seventy dollars in there and the staff refused to accept my $100 bill. I would completely understand if I was in there making a $5 purchase and was asking for $95 in change. However, I get to the register and the worker asks if I want to pay with my card...WELL PLEASE TELL ME WHAT OTHER CHOICE I HAVE IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO ACCEPT MY CASH!!! Upon paying with my card I am then asked to leave a tip...WOW, just wow!!!...for putting cupcakes in a box and some cookies in a bag? Then I was sarcastically told as I was leaving to have a nice day. Another reason I cannot wait to move away from this town - rude locals who don't want to accept your money, then ask for a tip, and send you on your way as if they could care less whether you do business with them or not. Sadly, I will not be doing business...

2nd update. 10-29-22. Still a 5 star review. The death to your 20’s cake was the 3rd cake. Absolutely delicious and decorated perfectly.

1st review. The most amazing cake we have ever had! It was decorated beautifully and tasted delicious as well. For my wife’s birthday she wanted to visit my mom in Gulfport. We live in Texas so I wanted to do something special for her since her birthday is the 27th and she loves Halloween. I called a bakery in Biloxi and sent them a picture of what I wanted and they told me that they couldn’t do it. My sister recommended Dolce Bakeshop and I sent them a picture of what I wanted and they were so excited to make this cake. From start to finish this was an amazing and easy experience. I got a response back right away and we talked on the phone as well. I didn’t worry about it again at all until the night before when I called to see if everything was good and as expected it was. We picked it up right on time and the staff was extremely friendly and professional. The shop was very welcoming and colorfully with baked goods ready to sell. They told us they had a great time making this cake and it was the favorite cake of the week. We are fans for life now and will definitely use the bakeshop again...
