I had a friend in town visiting and I made the error of assuming since Michael's is in a nice area of Naples that it was a respectable and professional Italian restaurant.
This experience was so awful and ridiculous you'd think it was a prank on a hidden camera show.
When we arrived for an early dinner around 5:30 there were only two other patrons. The waiter was rather snooty and seated us. My friend is African American, and after looking over the menu we were ready to order. Though the waiter was not helping any other customers , we waited at least another 20 minutes before he took our order. I was getting a bad vibe and we should have just walked out but we were both hungry.
When I asked the waiter about vegan and vegetarian options, he rudely rolled his eyes and said all orders were as stated. We ordered some salads and a veggie pizza. After nearly 45 minutes we were handed this mediocre greasy pizza that was not really cooked properly in the middle. After waiting another several minutes we said this pizza wasn't cooked properly. We got an abusive attitude.
I am an Italophile and have always loved Italy and Italian cuisine but was so disgusted by this place: their unprofessionalism, marked racism, over priced mediocre food, and attitude that I and all my neighbors will never be supporting this joke establishment. SHAME on MICHAEL'S!
I have always supported restaurants and small businesses in the area and have wonderful service from other places. I was really sad to hear Z Pizza closed it's doors (why we came to Michael's in the first place). Because Z Pizza had excellent vegan pizza delivered in 30 minutes for a nominal fee and their salads were good too.
Michael's of Naples goes down as one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. ...
Read morePretentious environment and sub-par food. Reviews for Michael's were excellent and pictures of food and the space seemed promising.
We ordered a pizza with prosciutto, mushrooms, olives, mozzarella, a couple other things I'm forgetting, with a tomato based sauce and an arancini appetizer. The food came out quick. A little too quick, but a thin crust pizza and a handful of fried rice balls shouldn't take long, really. The pizza was fine. Traditional thin crust, cooked in an open fire stone oven, made with fresh quality ingredients. Unfortunately, it was slightly burnt in some spots on the underside and very soggy towards the middle. Flavor was good, but just not executed perfectly. I was even more disappointed in the arancini. They were not freshly fried, it seemed as if they were fried at some point and re-heated in the oven....a travesty. They were VERY crumbly and would not hold their form and the flavor was un-inspriring.
Our waitress was great. Very friendly and attentive. The hostesses were....interesting. I don't see myself going back to Michael's, nor suggesting it to anyone else, unless they're going for brunch to load up on cheap mimosas, maybe that'd make the experience...
Read more1 star for a good tasting margherita pizza.
The service here is horrible. When we entered we stood for a few minutes waiting for a server to acknowledge us in this tiny restaurant. When We were finally told we could just sit anywhere the waiter came up to us like 15 minutes later and We ordered a margherita pizza and the bake fusilli. It took us 45 minutes to get our orders. the restaurant wasn't even full at the time. I noticed other tables were given bread except us. We were starving by the time the food finally got to us. Pizza was great. Fusilli was horrible ...it looked like a Mac n cheese, way too saucey, had no flavor and had 2 bits of sausage in it. This cost $14. And I know, you're saying why did u get pasta at a place known for their pizza...in the downtown location I've had their pasta and it's delicious. She also never came in between our order to update us that the food would be a little bit longer to give us a chance to I dunno order an appetizer or something. They seemed like the y get a lot of to go orders and it seemed like their number...
