Marina Apartments & Boat Slips — Local services in Long Beach

Ive lived there over 2 years and The apartments are ok, however many things may persuade some people to stay away such as: this place was built a very long time ago so it has the following: termites, roaches(even after their teatment close your sink and bathtub drains when sleeping), black mold in bathrooms, and many other things of course. The storage area to put your kayaks, bikes, etc is consistantly broken into and things are stolen and or broken. The management are deceivingly nice and pretend to be on your side, but they dont care about you in the end. Some people have gotten bed bugs due to dirty/re-used equipment installed by their maintenence men from one apartment to another such as heaters, and smoke detectors and management charges them $1500 for heat treatment through lloyds, when it wasnt even their fault and they didnt consult them before to see if the renters wanted to get a cheaper quote from someone else and then not helping the renter out in any way to cover loss of furniture or personal belongings (your forced to pay renters insurance, even with renters insurance bed bug personal item loss is not covered, because they dont cover that) or hotel room before and during such treatment, so that means you have to sleep with bedbugs till treatment truck arrives then your left to clean up the mess . Some people have been waiting for 6 months for their heaters to be fixed. The only 2 good things about this place are: very close to the bars on 2nd st, and close to the beach, however that being said it also causes homeless people to be attracted to this place because of its easy accessability, so beware especially if you have kids. The reason i am giving this place a 3 star rather than anything lower is because i have some respect for people and their business which is more than this place will show you if something happens that could be blamed on you, they will blame you all the way and you will pay for it. Just remember: 1-thoroughly read your lease, 2-attorneys are your friend. Just dont be taken in by first looks. I thought this place was paradise compared to other places, but nothing is as it seems unfortunately. Parking is street parking so it is a hassle, especially with street sweeping thursday and friday mornings from 10am-12pm. I had bedbugs because of a used smoke detector maintenance put in. I lost my couch bed! They refused to put us up in hotel. They wanted to charge us 1500 for extermination fee!! Even though it didnt say anything on our lease about getting charged extermination fees! Then after i put up a Yelp review n i said I wanted to move out n called code compliance on them for Black mold and other things they never fixed or fixed properly! I got the manager On Tape saying "my boss Chris was mad over review, so we will let you out of lease, no penalties, give us a 30 day notice, and you'll get all your deposit back if the apartment is really clean. I bleached the walls! Tops of doors n frames, behind stove, fridge n oven! The walk through he said "wow, you guys did an awesome job!" We gave a 30 day notice on June 30th we'd be out by August 1st. Then he said we didn't give him proper notice n said he has to charge me Half of the extermination fee of $750! My deposit is $650!!! DO NOT RENT HERE!!! THEY ARE...

I have been here at the Marina Apartments about 1 year and change. It was a easy process from applying and moving in. I enjoy the quietness to work from home and study with my daughter. It is a dream and blessing to live here. Hector the maintenence always responds right away and is helpful to fix things. He has been a great help in fixing the bathroom sink and helping with fridge/stove. Tania the manager has been great as well answering all my questions and even processing some paperwork at an expedient time frame especially duri g covid-19.
