Soul Food Renaissance — Restaurant in Long Beach

Less than an hour ago I bought two plates beef brisket rice and gravy and cabbage and another plate of Oxtail macaroni and cheese and cabbage. The first play I only receive beef brisket some type of corn and okra and peppers mixed. Which is entirely wrong, the second plate only had three pieces of meat and an extra side of rice and gravy. I forgot to mention that they sent two more extra sides of rice and gravy along with the plates. The rice and gravy tasted and smelled so sour and a beef brisket tasted an old. I requested a refund before I even ate anything because my plate wasn’t correct. But I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I finish eating the beef brisket midway through eating it half of the beef was so rough it was like chewing on a stick not to mention the beef they kind of smell funny. I eat maybe five scoops of rice and gravy and immediately tasted sour and smell sour as well I threw the entire plate away and the second plate I had to tell my friend to stop eating because she smelt the same thing I smelled. Literally not even five minutes from throwing the plate in the trashcan I had to rush to the bathroom and threw up more than eight times. I can’t remember going to the bathroom and not throwing up more than twice to get most of what I ate out and I wasn’t even trying to throw up this was because the food was sour and old and disgusting. Luckily my friend didn’t eat as much as I did must need it to say this place is very very nasty there is no way that you cook food and could not smell that the gravy was all and sour and the rice was as well and a beef brisket was dried out as if it was beef jerky. Sad to say I still have that sour taste in my mouth and then throw up taste as well I got my money back I just hope I’m not sick from eating. First of all, this place would not give my order to the first driver Postmates) that showed up because supposedly he canceled my order. Postmates never cancelled my order. I had to call the restaurant several times to let them know Postmates never cancelled my order. They never even checked until I called and spoke with them. The young lady I spoke to the first of couple was very rude and her customer service skills are terrible. It wasn’t until I spoke with an older lady that I got my order delivered. She was much nicer although she still gave us old food and scraps. Then, each time I called, I kept getting put on hold for long periods of time. When my boyfriend got on the phone and asked them if they knew what a half of rack of ribs is, they act like they didn’t know what he was talking about. Then the young lady must have forgotten to put the phone on mute when she put my boyfriend on hold, and you hear a woman’s voice in the background, saying, “That’s all we had left”. So instead of us telling us that they were limited on certain items and asking us if we wanted to substitute anything, they overcharged us for some old leftover scraps.I ordered a half rack of ribs and they gave me ONE old piece rib and another piece of fat. That order was for my boyfriend and that’s what he got. That’s it. The German chocolate cake was old, they were supposed to give me 7 pieces of fish and I only got 4 and they tasted like they had been cooked in old chicken grease that had been sitting out since morning. Today was my first time coming to this place and I definitely plan to come again! I ordered a lunch special rice with gravy, a smothered pork chop, greens, yams, 2 cornbread muffins, a lemonade and peach cobbler! Everything was made to perfection and it didn’t take long at all ( considering what I ordered I expected a long wait time ).The greens were so delicious, the yams were cooked just right not too hard and not too sweet! The cornbread was D E L I C I O U S ( I’m 5 months pregnant and I crave GOOD cornbread all the time ) the pork chop was cooked just right -not hard, or burned 🙌🏾 the peach cobbler was so good my mouth is watering as I’m typing lol! I HIGHLY recommend this soul food place to any and everyone looking for a delicious home cooked meal! Best of all it was under $20 for all that greatness! If I knew what I was getting before I took my order to go I would’ve tipped the cook because she definitely deserves it! The people there were so sweet and genuine and their customer service...
