Overall poor experience, wonât come again.
Environment: clean brightly lit interior, music too loud. Sat outside where the music was a good volume. Near 100% Aventura playing, nice vibe.
Chips and table salsa: green and red salsas were served at the table in little bottles. No dish was provided to pour salsa into. I assumed that the server forgot to bring a dish, but they actually intend for customers to pour the salsa on to each chip. Never seen that before. They gave us share plates.
The menu: smallish, typical Mexican restaurant offerings with somewhat limited vegetarian options. There is a veggie quesadilla, portobello burger, vegetable soup, 2 salads, and chile rellenos. We wanted to order the chile relleno and another dish with chicken, but they were out of chile rellenos and chicken. Veggie quesadillas for both of the vegetarians it was.
Food: the food was beautifully plated. After the disappointments with the chips and salsa and service, it was a nice surprise to see the plates. Quesadillas were tasty, steak taco salad was fine. I wish the quesadillas were served with salsa and sour cream. Price was good for the area. Big portions. Also tasty leftovers for tomorrow.
Service: the servers were friendly and polite. It took a while for us to get waters and silverware â we had finished our chips already. The food took about 40 minutes to arrive, which felt like a long time as the restaurant wasnât busy. Another minor note - the servers were wearing gloves that I donât believe were ever changed. I noticed one had a ripped thumb with a long pink nail sticking out. She had the same ripped glove each time I saw her. There is no reason to wear gloves as a server in a restaurant setting. The improper use of gloves is a bigger problem than any benefit you get from appearing to be sanitary by wearing gloves...
Read moreMy friend and I were down at the shore for a retreat and decided to check out Mi Cuate because it was close to our resort and got good reviews. We ordered the guacamole, a salad and some grilled chicken. The first sign that something was wrong was that they brought out chips and two bottles of salsa with nothing to pour the salsa into. We assumed the chips were for the guacamole, but that did not come out until 20 minutes after we ordered and had asked multiple times where it was. There were only two other tables that were seated at the time and the orders at both of those tables were wrong. Our food finally came out 45 minutes after we ordered the dishes - the salad was ice cold and the chicken had something smeared on it that looked terrible. We sent both dishes back. To top things off, the service was very poor and the waitstaff gave us attitude when we returned our entrées and said we were just going to pay for the guacamole and drink. There were no apologies about how long the food took and how subpar it looked. Do...
Read moreWalked by one morning on our way to Offshore, checked out the menu, the tacos caught our attention, specifically the Baja Fish and Tulum Shrimp tacos, a couple of our favorites. Decided to come back for lunch the next day. We ordered the aforementioned tacos. Server was nice, brought our drinks fairly quickly along with some tortilla chips... but no salsa. Had to go inside and request it later. Salsa has good flavor, they have a green and red, mild to medium spice. Tacos arrived, they looked great, nice presentation... but the shrimp was seriously lacking in flavor. My wife and I have had shrimp tacos in Tulum and these weren't even close. Plus only 2 medium-sized bland shrimp in each taco. The Baja Fish taco had decent flavored sauce on it. The tortillas were not warmed or grilled or anything on...
