I've been hearing all the hype about this new Café and wanted to see for myself what was up. So yesterday, I stopped in for a late-ish lunch (2:30.) Very cute place. I was minimally greeted in passing by one of the Sisters that own the place. So I sort of stood there waiting to be handed a menu and perhaps seated. I stood, I stood some more while the Sisters went about their business around me like I really wasn't there. So not seeing any print menus, I began looking at the chalk board on the wall with food choices. I settled on Fish and Chips or the Maui Maui Fish Tacos. I stood and waited some more. Keep in mind, there didn't seem to be any other patrons being waited on. There were a couple of folks in the back just chatting. I finally said "Do I just seat myself?" And one of them shortly said "You order here first." Like I was supposed to know how it worked. Of course, there are no signs telling you how it works. Guess I'm a mind reader.
So I ordered the Fish and Chips. I was told they ran out of fish. So choice #2 was out, as well, as it was fish. I asked if their Rellenos were fried as I prefer them. She said no, soft. Not my first choice but I ordered those with two scrambled eggs WITH Cheddar Cheese melted into them. Then as an after thought, I ordered a stack of pancakes TO GO. I then ordered a Mocha Decaf Latte with an extra shot to make four shots. One of the Sisters worked on that while I assume the other was beginning my order. I got my latte. I chose a table in the middle of the Café not near the door. It was pretty cold yesterday. I sat down with my latte and my book. The table rocked so badly that it made an audible 'thunk.' I got up and moved to the only cleared off table sort of near the door. Where I really didn't want to be but okay. There were two tables that weren't yet cleared off that I couldn't use. I settled in to enjoy my latte while I waited for my lunch. It was one of the worst lattes I'd ever had. You would think with four shots of espresso it would have some body to it....some 'substance.' No, it was downright watery. I put it down, and it's still sitting in my fridge, mostly full, while I decide what to do with it. After a while, my Relleno (singular) comes out with my eggs. A whole LOT of black beans and one Relleno and no cheddar cheese on the eggs. The Sister didn't listen to me as I was ordering. I didn't say anything. I asked for some white sausage gravy as their green chile was smokin' hot, and I don't do smokin' hot, and the scramble was dry without the cheese. Not everyone likes to sweat and have their noses drip into their lunch while they are trying to eat it. To their credit, they didn't charge me extra for either gravy. The Rellenos was very good. There was a little rice and a tiny side salad. And a whole LOT of black beans. Which I don't eat. I should have asked if they had potatoes of some sort instead. My bad.
Along comes the pancakes on a plate. Like I'm going to eat two whole breakfasts in a sitting. I inform her that I had ordered them to go to begin with. Once again, the Sister didn't listen to me as I was ordering. She takes them away and puts them in a to go box with two, dinky containers of syrup for three, large cakes. No butter. That's okay. I have both at home. They were for my husband anyway.
I finally decided I'd had enough as each time the door opened, cold air came in on me. I boxed up the rest of my Rellenos, paid the check and left. I didn't leave a tip as I was taught that if the Owners are serving you, you don't tip them.
Not an experience I at all expected by all the wonderful reviews I've read. I most likely won't be back again and won't recommend the Café to others.
My advice? Please slow down and listen to your customers. Listen to their orders. Ask questions. I'm not too sure whether there's a language barrier there, or what. I know you ladies are new at this but try to have the ingredients for all of your menu choices on hand. I was fairly turned off by the...
Read moreThe food at pistachios is always excellent! I often order the breakfast burrito to go multiple times a week. I do however have a quam about my most recent experience... I came in with my family the other day and was very disappointed that the same breakfast burrito I ordered to-go a hundred times before was more than double for dine in. When I asked for the handheld burrito I was told it was unavailable, and that my only option was to order it smothered with green chili. When I looked at the menu price I expected the burrito to be significantly larger for more than double the price. When I get them to go they are like $6, but this was $14 for what ended up being the exact same burrito except for it being smothered. I fully understand restaurant economics. I have a culinary degree from The Culinary Institute of America. Food cost is my specialty, and I have managed and ran several successful businesses in this area, including my own for 20 years. We both know the green chili smothered is costing you between 25 and 50 cents per plate. I can see no reason why the price would be more than double simply for dining in and slathering the top with a little green chili. I understand fully that it costs more money when people dine in person, so I could understand a slight upcharge if you want to fancy it up with 2 oz of green chili, but to charge more than double and tell a patron that they can't have what they want is bad business practice. I'm sorry is this the same restaurant? I watched people go in and out with to go breakfast burritos while I sat there and waited to pay over double for the same thing. It looks very greedy to operate this way. I would have more than likely ordered multiple things on the menu in addition to the handheld burrito just to try some of your other delicious food offerings. Instead I just ordered a glass of water and acquiesced to paying the ridiculous upcharge. Should I have allowed my family to eat and then ordered a separate handheld burrito to go home and eat by myself? We're not talking about a couple of dollars here, this is a significant increase. Aside from the price, I prefer handheld burritos rather than smothered so I feel you should allow your patrons to order what they want that's on the menu. Aside from that, the food is always excellent, and the front of the house staff is super friendly. That's why I gave the food and service still five stars, but for the purposes of this review I am down right now to...
Read moreSo I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, I drive by it frequently on my way to work. A friend do I work with let me know that they were a bit concerned with the quality of the place. I didn't let that stop me from going ahead and try it out. I really wish I would have.
the place has a drive-up window and I am just a freak for drive thru restaurants, I don't know why, I just love them. so when I saw that they finally had signed boards up outside of their drive-thru window I thought it would be the perfect time to try them out! I ordered a turkey panino, mislabeled as Panini on their sandwich board, and paid 1050 + change for a sandwich that was so heavy with grease I literally squeezed one half of it and the grease ran freely on to the styrofoam container that contained the sandwich. There is a good quarter inch of grease in one of the pockets, or you know the little cups of the styrofoam tray. it's funny too because my friend was really adamant about how this was going to be a terrible place, and he believed it to be so simply based on the cup of coffee he got in there before and some kind of waffle or something he was talking about. I like to be a little more optimistic when it comes to local restaurant so I was more than happy to give it a chance cuz he can be kind of a negative Nancy. but I'm really upset that I didn't listen to him and I will certainly in the future because this restaurant was horrible! I think my friend is right when he says this is just a cash grab, and we have both seen, along with all of the members of our class, large semi trucks pulling up outside to deliver their food. I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing because in this day and age, I don't know? But as someone who likes to protect the environment, as someone who cares about our planet, I just don't see that using a massive semi truck to get multiple weekly deliveries to your tiny restaurant is in any way a good use of the resources that we have available to us as...
