This place has the most juicy, flavorful, Tasty and tender brisket. I have not had this good of a serving of brisket in over 10 yrs. when I went to Lockhart to get barbeque. Small, down home place with a great fragrance when you walk in the door. Server was pleasant and our order was processed very quickly. They brought our order to our table. It doesn't look like much, but it is clean and has old time appliances on display. Almost looks like one of those 50's barbeque joints. Great atmosphere. This is indeed a hidden gem. I am telling you, if you live within 100 miles of this place, drop everything and go there NOW. I only had the brisket but they also have ribs, turkey, and beef. Well worth the trip. The absolute best barbecue at a reasonable price. I had a hankerin for their monster sandwich, but after a busy day, they had run out of turkey and hot link. I ended up getting a melman with regular sausage and it did NOT disappoint! Just as satisfying and flavorful as the monster and piled high with chopped beef and sausage. Plus they’re not greasy like most other bbq joints, just moist and tender. Their sauce is sweet and tangy, perfect. Me and my husband absolutely love BBQ. We used to work at a local BBQ restaurant in Gilmer but sadly that place has shut down, so we are always looking for good BBQ. Boxcar exceeded our expectations. We were expecting food to be high (since it is BBQ and meat isn’t cheap) but it actually wasn’t very high at all. Me and my husband got the sandwich plates, which came with a sandwich FILLED with meat, and 2 sides. I got a mailman sandwich with mac and cheese and regular potato salad, and my husband got a flying pig sandwich with baked potato salad and mac and cheese. It was all SUPER delicious!
