You have to stop by and experience this true southern comfort! Incredible southern, soul food with all the love and kindness you could imagine. I'm so upset I'm not a local to this joint, but I'm more than happy I got the chance to stop in and say hey! SHRIMP PO'BOY & COUNTRY FRIED STEAK SANDWICH were both incredible! The fries also hit the spot as a great side option, but all of the other fixin's looked just as good.
I was so excited to eat that I didn't even think to take pictures for sharing, you'll just have to stop in to seem them yourself!! The sandwiches were large and more than satisfying for a meal. We also got some deep fried shrimp, cheese, and jalapeno "poppers" (I'm not sure what they are called on the menu, I asked the lovely lady on the phone for her personal recommendation for our 1-time opportunity, and she did us GOOD!!) I wish I clarified her name in person but I believe I heard "Miss Jean" on the phone. Even with a line, and right before closing, Miss J and I were casually small talking and laughing on the phone, which had me smiling before I even walked in the door.
As a Florida boy, we don't get enough Cajun style options like this, but I do know a good something about fried foods, and this spot is a must try, especially for those just driving thru. But be careful, cause I had myself one heck of a good nap after stuffing my face!
Thank y'all for a genuine experience to the local culture, I felt more at home than I do in...
Read moreLunch specials are always great, but the real stars are the burgers!
Edit: After going to this place multiple times, I've decided to update my review:
The burgers here are arguably the best in Longview. Period. Yes, better than Jucy's. Yes, better than Butcher Shop. Yes, better than Whataburger. Try them with the jalapeño bun, you won't regret it.
The baked potatoes are, in my opinion, some of the best tasting in Longview as well, especially with brisket or pulled pork. They prepare it for you, which is a huge plus to not have to slice the potato open, add fixings and prep it, etc...
Their soul food is amazing. I've yet to have a lunch special that wasn't fantastic, and the desserts are just as good (I'm looking at you, buttercream pie).
If you haven't been, it's definitely worth the drive across town. If you're reading this during the pandemic, call ahead and they curbside deliver everything for you when you pull up. If you're unsure of what you want, they have their menu out front in the parking lot so you can decide in your vehicle after you arrive.I can't stress enough how much my wife and I enjoy this place. It's one of those hidden gems that you'll keep coming back to after the first trip, and the fact that it's a local small business is...
Read moreWaited in line for about 1.5 hours, and the food was just ok.. missing seasoning for sure. The service was great and they were very friendly to us. There were two workers in the front arguing really loud, and the younger lady was really disrespectful talking to the older lady about some plates that got mixed up, i assume. Either way, I was raised to respect my elders, so it bothered me until the lady working on the line eventually stopped the argument. The music was good. The building was old and ran down, but yall know that's where the best food comes out of from what I've seen.
The side portions are small (except for the cabbage) for as much as the meals cost 89 dollars would have been fine if our boxes had been full. The side of dressing was small as heck, too, one little scoop (of course, my greedy butt asked for extra). I will say The Cabbage was so good.. Oxtails weren't cooked long enough or falling off the bone, and the smothered pork chops the gravy was missing, seasoning it was super bland. The mac and cheese tasted like KFC...
