UPDATE: Again, another day with the manager Gloria not following up. Was advised to “call back tomorrow”. Know that if you have an issue it will likely not be resolved.
This is a placeholder review- in the hopes that the inexperienced / confused folk I spoke to at the restaurant Saturday keep their word - and that the manager I was ASSURED would call back “in a few hours” does take the time to resolve this with a loyal customer.
The rather vague gal I spoke with seemed unsure how to communicate - First, she said that she would get a hold of the manager and put me on hold for about five minutes, then came back to say she couldn’t get a hold of the manager, but the manager would call me back- and then she asked ME to call back in a few hours (which I did, but still, there was no manager to speak to …) and then refused to give me her first name – NOTE: the last time there was an issue with a pick up order (inedible garlic knots - overbaked and impossible to chew) went down, the Manager questioned why I did not call back the very next day, if there was an issue to resolve- SO: this is the only way I have to prove that I called in Saturday - and was denied a resolution in real time... and still 3 days after the order was faulty, have received no call back to resolve.
I’ve been ordering from this restaurant since it was a small café up on Laurel Canyon, about 30-35 years, and hardly ever have an issue.
The last time was about 8 months ago, when the expensive little garlic knots as I mentioned were overbaked and impossible to enjoy. That finally got resolved after much confusion on the part of the wait staff, miscommunication, and several calls back and forth.
Friday night 5/30/25 I ordered a large salad - and the dressing which is of course is what makes the lettuce and walnuts tasty, was a bland, watered-down facsimile of what they usually serve.
The salad, a small container of soup, and an order of garlic knots cost $40 all in. Dinner for one. Not great value, but worth it as an expensive splurge if prepared correctly.
Knowing the difficult time I had last time, when there was an issue, I only ate a third of the salad once I realized the dressing was OFF- and was prepared to bring back the rest once they opened as proof there was an issue, this time.
I offered to bring back the salad to the Male server who took over the call (when the female was unhelpful and vague)- and he said to just "hang onto it" until the manager got back to me.
That was now three days ago.
So I’m on stand-by hoping someone in charge who understands good customer service will call back and resolve this, as at the prices they’re charging for watered down, unpleasant over-vinegary salad dressing on what is essentially a $20 salad of lettuce and walnuts (and a sprinkling of cheese) is not worth it.
Thank you – Kathryn,
(originally written 10 minutes after getting off the 2nd call with the restaurant; and less than 16 hours after picking up this order…) Now updated due to no one calling back as promised 3 days later.
NOTE: The Owner seems very active on Reviews in general, at least in terms of response time (good reviews get a huge thanks, negative reviews get a 'Thank you for making us aware', but no offer to make botched orders right). Tho I was asked to take more time out of my day to 'call back' on Saturday - no one returned my call Saturday or Sunday (I was told on my call back 'no manager is in on weekends- even tho this is their busiest time??!) - yet they decided to respond to my review at 3:03 AM Monday! Still have not received the call I was promised by the various wait staff on...
Read moreWe have probably heated of this place more than a year ago before my wife was even pregnant obviously. All of a sudden one day(she is due in a week or so) she says we need to visit this place. We made a little research and this was the cafe everybody were talking about for their world famous “The salad”.... That’s right, rumor goes that heavily pregnant that are over or close to their due date will eat this special salad and go in labor within 3 days or whatever. So here we go with my “I’m done with this pregnancy” wife to get this salad. It is located in Studio on Tujunga. Parking is kind of difficult but we were able to find street parking within walking distance. The place is very tiny but welcoming with “baby board” of all the names of new babies that were born. A journal with all ladies who were looking to jump start their labor. So we ordered the magic salad with extra dressing on the side(since that’s what makes magic happen). It was a mixture of lettuce, walnuts, watercress and maybe something else with a very strong balsamic dressing. My wife loves balsamic dressing so she devoured it and loved it, we had some leftover to take home too. I had Greek salad which was fantastic, better than some authentic Greek places. Their pizza smelled amazing and they had good menu, which we thought to try some other time because today we were on a mission. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and they knew exactly why we were there haha! Unfortunately the salad did’t work, I guess our little guy just wants to stay longer which is fine with us but we truly enjoyed the experience and their food. Will definitely be back to try their pizza and...

I had the bison meat pizza!! Grilled onions topped this cheesy and delicious master piece.
The flavor was perfect and they’re gonna tell you for the price. You really don’t find a lot of places like this, but I had to have a bowl of the lentil soup.
My companion enjoyed the iced coffee and it was delicious. The seating area is large and perfect for large parties or families and then out front. You can enjoy outdoor seating with a nice little fenced in area.
I was very impressed. I enjoyed the pizza tremendously. The meat was flavored and seasoned perfectly.
I absolutely love this pizza place. It has beautiful seating. The menus, incredible and ingredients are super fresh.!!
I ordered the pepperoni and sausage and had the pleasure of hanging out with the cashier and waiter. Who is really cool. We talked a lot about different things in our experiences but it didn’t even take me 10 minutes to get this delicious pizza. Now I have to save this for later .
But I can’t recommend this place enough it is so super pleasant and the one thing I absolutely love? The selections of soup! Stop...
