This place was insanely loud. Like damaging to your hearing, loud. My friends and I could hardly carry a conversation and had to yell everything. My sound app said it was 95 decibels! That will cause permanent hearing loss. I wasn’t expecting it to be that loud on a Wednesday evening of all times.
When the server brought the check, we noticed it’s “One of THOSE” places that tries to sneak in a 3% surcharge for “employee health” on your bill, but then the receipt also says that the employees do not receive this money. I asked the server “can you please take off the 3% thing?” And they smiled and said yes, acknowledged what I had said. When I got my receipt after paying, I noticed that the surcharge was still there. So I flagged down the server and said “sorry, I had asked you to take off the 3% surcharge..?” And they bristled and got defensive, saying “I don’t remember you saying that to me, ever, but ok” and seemed very sour about the whole thing. I get that it was SUPER loud in there, but I asked you a question which you nodded and said yes to, so please don’t claim that I never said anything. If you didn’t hear what I said, ask me to repeat it?
Most likely the server was just stressed (understaffed), super busy, and probably heard me but immediately forgot. I get it. Their response to me saying “hey I had made this request earlier and it wasn’t met” was super rude and there’s no reason to be defensive to a customer (when I wasn’t even being rude about it) . I’m not interested in coming back to this place again.
Also, if you want to charge a 3% surcharge, just RAISE the prices by that amount!! Don’t try and be...
Read moreI mean, the service was alright, hostess quite rude but ok, as well as having a very well kept and clean, but it’s the food that matters in a restaurant, as someone from D.F. I expected more from a restaurant with on Michelin guide. I don’t know who awarded it but they clearly know nothing about Mexican cuisine. The fish in the taco was great, but the taco itself was bland and kind of dry. The barbacoa was decent, juicy and soft, kind of melts in your mouth. Again, taco itself, bland and dry. The food was good quality and felt clean. But when I looked at the menu I hoped the price was in pesos. $9 for a singular taco is absolutely outrageous. Not the same food but i’d rather pay that at In-n-out. With that money in Mexico you can get about 3 or more orders of tacos with 3 tacos per order, not street tacos because some may say it isn’t sanitary but from an actual Michelin star in Mexico City. Plus a pitcher of agua fresca. I feel that they use the excuse of “Michelin Guide” to up the price of their food. They try to mix vegan and gluten free in with the menu but it doesn’t really go to well, I mean the churros tasted like sweet potatoes, I like sweet potatoes but if I wanted them I would have eaten sweet potatoes, I wanted churros and the churros I got weren’t true churros. The dip was really good, probably the best thing there, the coconut caramel dip was exquisite. Loved the restaurant, but for that price I expect more from my tacos...
Read morea beautiful surprise in the west adams neighborhood! the best part…they serve brunch until 5pm.
a friend of mine had Chulita on his list of places to dine before moving out of LA. i’m so glad we went here. the ambiance is perfection as the sunlight hits right into their beautiful space - i’ve never been to Tulum, but from what i’ve seen, the place gives that vibe. it’s also very aesthetic for the content creators who want to have a nice meal with their crew.
initially, i was worried about the type of service coming in, but Shireen, the owner was so welcoming and such a bright energy. i was stuck between tacos or bistec y huevos & she walked me through my decision process. the moment she started breaking down the flavors of the tacos and associating it with what i want to feel when i have the meal, i knew we were in good hands.
stuck between my options, Shireen ended up giving me an additional taco to try. i got the barbacoa, hanger steak and mushroom carnitas. my favorite was the mushroom, the texture and flavor was perfect.
my friend and i also shared the tres leches cassava waffle. i’ve only tried cassava in filipino dessert so i wasn’t sure what to expect. it was delicious! more dense than a typical belgian waffle & gave that hint of cassava, not too sweet!
can’t wait to come back and try more dishes, thank you Chulita for the...
