Three words: horrible, unprofessional and probably life-threatening. My friends and I had this 滋味小面 today. The worst MIAM store ever. I have been to this business before several times but the experience were OK but I would never ever come back again. Even though my experience and expressions are subjective but I’d try to be as objective as possible. To start with: water: we were not offered water after we were seated for more than 10 minutes and we had to grab the water in the fridge near us because our waitress was just not around. We then had dinner for an hour there but no water refills AT ALL. I had to stand up and grab water again and this time our waitress suddenly appeared and asked me not to do so. Saying “we should ask for water.” Ok I understand there might be food safety policies in your store but you could have refilled our water at the first place right? The probably overnighted spicy beef (cold dish) The food was not fresh at all. You can taste the sourness in it. All of our stomaches are not feeling well right now (an hour after the dinner). Hopefully it would not cause us to have diarrhea or more severe medical conditions tmr. If we do I would certainly file a complaint on the city department of food safety. The so called “狼牙” fries or “Sichuan” fries When we ordered the “Sichuan” fries, we were expecting “Sichuan” fries. Yet what we had was just regular fries. No one have mentioned that the supplier has been changed nor the menu picture were updated. Funny thing: our waitress doesn’t understand why we are upset. She was like “it’s just the shapes are different”. Yeah? The manager then took it off our bill. The waitress then came to take the fries off the table while one of my friends was still having it. She was like “you guys said you don’t like it isn’t it?” So condescending and inconsiderate. The finale for tonight: fried rice with raw shrimp and no salt at all The title is pretty much self explanatory. I have never ever had fried rice without any salt in it. I was so surprised that I even asked my other three friends to try it. They were all surprised too. I explained the situation to the manager I think? The manager was very nice I need to point it out, yet not professional. Not professional in a way that he asked me if I want salt. Ok this is just not how you run a restaurant. You don’t just blend salt in the fried rice if the chef did not add the salt at the first place. I then explained that they need to take my dish back, add salt and re-fried it again. They did but still tasted awful. Also the shrimp is half raw. I’m finger crossed hoping I would not develop gastroenteritis tmr. Then I probably need to visit ER.
Definitely not recommending anyone coming to this store again. If you really want to try MIAN, I have been to MIAN in Las Vegas, San Gabriel and Huston. They all taste fine. Just not this place.
Also, for the waitress who had the condescending attitude almost like accusing us “getting the fries for free”. We did not ask discount on the beef, the awful fried rice and we still tipped you 15%. Because we don’t know if you were actually being condescending or it’s just this store did not...
Read moreI dunno, it was okay. Consider this a 2.5/5 stars. I ordered the chili oil dumplings and sichuan cold noodles to try and got them takeout. I live less than 2 minutes drive away and got there like 5 minutes early and my food was ready, so it was as fresh as it gets by the time I got home.
The chili oil was delicious but the dumplings themselves were mediocre at best, I was pretty disappointed. The pork filling was just a solid lump inside the dumplings and the dough felt massively oversized for how much filling was actually in there. The dumplings also tasted a bit watery. They also just threw plain dumplings in a takeout box and a cup of chili oil inside, which felt a bit lazy to me especially for the price.
The sichuan noodles would have been good but the noodles were a bit overcooked I think, so they were a little too tender and kind of just fell apart in your mouth. It was a TON of noodles and I couldn't really bear to eat more than a few bites because of the noodle texture which was a huge shame.
People at the cashier were also not super friendly, I walked in having never been there before and they just stared at me expecting me to know where to go or who to talk to, it was really weird.
I probably won't be coming back mainly because I spent nearly $25 on two dishes and they were both pretty disappointing. I'm not exactly a foodie but for the price there are a lot of better...
Read moreI got to try my first Mian at the San Gabriel's branch. It took me about 45 minutes to drive there so I got really excited when I learn about a new branch being opened so near from where I live. 🤩
Anyhow, in regards to the food, always amazing! I wasn't disappointed as they taste exactly the same at this branch. For those who are trying out Mian for the first time and you can take spice, go for their ChengDu ZaJiang Noodle as it is my favorite. The noodle's texture is cooked to perdection, the seasoning isn't too salty and I like how they add vegetables 🌿 in there too! I recommend getting their fried chicken as well as they are pretty crispy and crunchy. 🍗
As for drinks, it is pretty standard here to order their Mung Bean Tea (if you are coming with a party of 2, it's better to only order 1 cup and share it as they do free refill).
Side note, the menu in this branch is a little Americanized as there are some items missing like intestines (I know, you probably moved your neck backwards after reading this, but they are delicious!). 😏
Tips: you used to be able to park on the parking structure of the building about 2 blocks away. So, parking just got a little more challenging now.
