Like most people I had a Denny’s “phase” in my youth…all my friends in High School would invariable end up at the local one after an event or evening of camaraderie…I even spent a good amount of time during college studying late nights over veggie cheese melts and french fries. Gradually as my palette refined and I developed a taste for great food, I began to categorize Denny’s as a place that, if you found yourself in one, you’ve basically given up. And sure, there are much nicer places to eat any of the style of foods Denny’s offers. But sometimes you just want a good basic diner style breakfast, with drinkable coffee, and my family headed to the Roscoe and Orion location to see if we could achieve that. We basically did.
Let’s start with the coffee as the sets the tone for breakfast. It was surprisingly good - Much better than similar basic diner coffees I’ve had literally all over the world. Kind of bold and maybe with a little burnt taste, so not perfect, but when they serve you thin browned water in some places, this was acceptable.
I had sunny side up eggs with cheesy hash-browns and an English muffin. This looked pretty good on the plate…the exact vision I was going for…though the whites of the eggs weren’t totally cooked, and the hash-browns, although crispy on the outside, were definitely undercooked on the inside. The english muffin was done perfectly. Also they charged me for a Junior Slam since they no longer have a 2-egg breakfast on the menu so it was a really good deal.
My wife had the Fit Fare Loaded Veggie Omelette. It didn’t look anything like the picture but she thought it tasted great. Again her hash-browns were underdone on the inside. Come-on Denny’s…Hash-browns is a basic breakfast item…we know your popular and busy…but get those right. My wife was also really happy to get an Udi’s gluten-free English muffin with her meal, which didn’t cost any more than regular bread, and which tasted good, and was cooked perfectly.
Our kid enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes with the yogurt he got on the side
All this basically did the job of giving us a basic solid diner breakfast…if my eggs had been more cooked, and the hash-browns cooked properly, we’d have been pretty excited. Also, unfortunately they get the entire order wrong. My wife got hash-browns (as mentioned) though she had actually ordered fruit as her side. (The server compensated by bringing the fruit in addition to the hash-browns.) Also our kid’s meal came with bacon on the side which we didn’t order (we’re all vegetarians) so we had to send that back. And my hash browns (which I’d ordered with cheese) came without the cheese, so they had to redo that.) They correct everything very quickly, but again, it’s probably not a good sign that they got the entire order wrong.
In the end we got what we wanted, and the price was good. We’d go back when we get that hankering for something less upscale than all the brunches at the many new-American style restaurants elsewhere. But I hope they read this and work on the quality control to...
Read moreI ordered over the phone at 9:20 am , I was given an ETA of 9:50 am. I ordered 1 plate , the basics : scrambled eggs, hash browns and pancakes. Pretty simple right ? No , apparently not ! I was there at 10:00 am because I decided to give them an extra 10 minutes just in case. When I get there they tell me 10 more minutes, I was disappointed because I purposely arrived 10 minutes late. After those 10 minutes at 10:10am I go back in and I ask again this time it's another lady at the desk she goes off to the back and comes back a few minutes later and says just 10 more minutes. At this point its 10:17am, I'm so frustrated I just want my money back and I still need to find something to eat before I go to work at 11:30 am but I decide might as well wait , I had paid with my debit card so my option was to wait 5 days for my money to return on the card. It is now 10:30am and now when I ask for my food , the person goes to the back , comes back and says I can not find your order ! I couldn't believe it , I had been waiting for an hour at this point for my food. I just gave up and left , I didn't want to be late to work and not one employee was interested in helping me or finding my food. The staff here is the worse a bunch a people who don't care to be there !!! I still want to understand how my food was misplaced and why no one cared to help. Never again , I...
Read moreI thought Denny's was 24 hours. I arrived at the Denny's at 4:45 a.m. for a quick breakfast and a large cup of coffee. This Denny's sets right off of the freeway near a few hotels and the car dealership. At that hour, plenty of people was starting their day. The streets were busy as if it was 4:45 p.m. When I pulled up, I had to rearrange a few things in my car/suitcase because I had an early morning flight to catch out. I watched at least 10 cars pull up over a 15 to 20 minutes. Some of those cars having multiple worker in them. I wasn't paying too much attention. I would see them getting out of tgeir cars and then going back to the cars. It seems like a pretty busy area with the car dealerships and all of the hotels nearby. It doesn't look like a bad neighborhood. Just know that it DOES NOT STAY OPEN for 24 hours. Extreme bummer! I never knew that Denny's had a closing hour 6 a.m. through 11 p.m. is there hours. Big disappointment after sitting there all of that time. I drove a little further away from the freeway and found a Jack In The Box a block or two up that was open 24-hours in the Drive-Thru. Their coffee is...
