Ok, first things first, the reviews here...a few are from users with no names... that's plain suspicious.
I ordered food and asked for no avacado, because I'm allergic. I half-way explained this to the cashier, before she cut me off. I later had to go to the hospital, when I bit into the avocado. Point number one, the cashier (a thicker shorter young lady with light skin brown straight hair, black plastic rimmed glasses and tattoos all over her arms) did not listen to the order or the cook didn't care.
When I asked about the vegetables in a burrito, I asked again to make sure I heard right, before specifically requesting no avocado. The response from the cashier after asking the second time was, "What I had said!" I don't care if I have to ask a million times, I should get an answer, not back talk. Why am I expected to learn everything about their menu the very first visit? I shouldn't have to memorize that stuff, that's what a menu is for and if the menu doesn't have it, then that's what the cashier or cook is for. There was no one in line behind us, so there was no reason to be in a rush and their was especially no reason to be rude.
I ordered a burrito with veggies and bacon, my partner, a jones something. We waited and while waiting, a docker came in to order something more complex, a combination meal of sorts. They finished making the docker's good and sent him off, before giving us ours. It was warm food by the time we got it.
I didn't want to complain since the staff seemed thuggish and likely to do terrible things to our food. I at least tried calling the owner after leaving, but the phone was busy (subsequently, all day) and the place was closed the following day. All I wanted was to make the owner aware of the absolutely terrible service and resulting problem. I can't seem to do that and so, I think I'll just have to sue to get my medical bill recovered, I at least have video of the avocado when I started eating it.
Bottom Line: Service by all staff are the worst; if you are not a docker, then you are shite to this business. They will ignore explanations of your medical conditions. For your own safety, don't go here. It's not worth the stress.
If there is something good to say, it is that the edifice itself is satisfactorily clean. At least relative to some places I've been...
Read moreI was slightly leery of a Mexican restaurant called "Isaac Cafe" but don't let the name fool you. This place is a local treasure. The folks who first took me there told me how long they'd been coming, about the carne asada - and they told me to ignore the unusual name of the place and its somewhat unsavory location. Okay, I said. For good carne asada, I'd go almost anywhere. And while Isaac Cafe isn't on an upscale street, it is hardly in an unsavory area. The Food for Less market is across the street and the Longshoremen's Training Center is within walking distance. The carne asada is worth the trip. I haven't had better anywhere in the Wilmington /Long Beach area. My only caution to you is that you can wait a very long time for your order if you arrive at the rush times. We waited nearly 40 minutes and while the food was great, the wait meant we had to wolf down our meal so we wouldn't be late getting back to work. But if you pick a less busy time, you will be amazed that such tasty Mexican food is waiting inside the oddly...
Read moreA co-worker had told me in Wilmington the best place to get a burrito is Isaac's Cafe. But that they closed early
Finally I was in the area on weekday and I called if a friend to meet me there for a quick lunch
The cafe was very busy and we did get a booth but we did have to wait a bit for a food which was well worth the wait
Both of us ate every bite and enjoyed the chili sauce has red and green that are delivered with the burritos
It's very much a longshoremen's place... a TV but otherwise Stark.
the crew was extremely efficient but not very friendly otherwise I would have given them a 5
it's off the beaten path but easy to find at the same time it's right in front of you you just never saw it. It's a locals place you must know it or you will miss it.
That carne asada burrito was a strong...
