Karina's Cake House — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I hired Hayk's Bakery for a bridal shower through a referral. She was suppose to be at the hall at 8:30 am to deliver the cake, the pastries, and to set up the dessert table. To my surprise, I was informed that she wasn't there. I called and texted her, yet received no response. By 9:30 a.m. I started to panic thinking I would have to buy a bridal shower cake last minute. At 9:44 am, her daughter and another worker arrived at the hall. I was expecting to see Mary, since she wrote on my receipt that she would be there. Instead, I was informed by her daughter, that she would not be coming. Of course, I was upset because Mary was the one who I had consulted in regarding how I wanted to setup the dessert table. With an hr left to go before the event started, I had to setup the table, while the daughter started to unload the cake and pastries. When I saw the desserts and the cake, that's when I knew exactly why Mary chose not to arrive to the hall. The writing on the cake looked unreadable (a two yr old could of done a better job) and the desserts weren't what I ordered. Instead of dipped gold strawberries, she used expired donuts! My guests informed me, after the fact, that they couldn't eat most of the desserts because it either tasted awful or was expired! I was really looking forward to visiting the new Karina’s Cake location in the San Fernando Valley, especially since I’ve had consistently good experiences at their Glendale store. Unfortunately, my recent visit on Friday, July 18 was unsettling and disappointing.

We stopped by to pick up a cake for a co-worker, and while the cakes looked great as usual, the customer service was not what I expected. The woman who assisted us came off as standoffish and disengaged. What made it more uncomfortable was witnessing her demeanor shift noticeably when assisting another customer—who was lighter-skinned and spoke the same language. She was suddenly much more friendly and attentive, which was hard to ignore.

To add to the experience, while the cake looked beautiful, the taste was underwhelming. It had a somewhat chemical aftertaste, which was unexpected given the usually high quality from their Glendale location.

I really wanted to support the new store and was excited about the convenience, but unfortunately, the customer service and taste did not meet the standard I’ve come to associate with Karina’s Cake. I hope things improve with time, because I know they’re...

How did I not know there was a location in the valley?!?. I have gone to the Glendale location for the kievsky cake which is a Ukrainian cake comprised of layers of crisp meringue and buttercream. It’s delicious and beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately, they don’t sell this cake by the slice, but they have so many other desserts to choose from if you don’t want a whole cake.
