I’ve been going to Midori Sushi for their All-You-Can-Eat special for over 10 years when my fam introduced me to their restaurants back when I was in high school. Their restaurant back then made me fall in love with sushi, mainly nigiri and not just the rolls us growing up in LA are used to. Went there today for my 28th birthday and their quality and service stood the test of time and is some of the best sushi I ever had in The Valley 818 area. They had 3 restaurants all on Ventura Blvd (Studio City, Sherman Oaks, and Encino area) I went to this Studio City location where parking is a bit tight but I highly recommend going there right before they open at 12pm for lunch. They close 230pm and reopen at 5pm for dinner.
Prices are $40-$50 for the weekend and I believe somewhere between $35-$40 on weekdays, so if you want to save a bit of money definitely go on the weekdays. However, even though I went on a Saturday right at 12pm when they open, it was worth it and my friend and I were one of the first ones there.
Historically, when I was in high school and college I was able to make the most bang for my buck and get my moneys worth 2-3x over from the AYCE because of my pacing techniques. I do say I’ve slowed down in metabolism lol over the years of just getting older. There are 3 rounds that you can order (in a 2 hour time limit window) and what I did see newly added as of September 2025 is that theres a limit of 10 orders per round…which is fair considering the amount of sushi one can eat. It was my friends’ first time and the 3 rounds of AYCE sushi was just right. Great selection of appetizers are included, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BAKED MUSSELS. And there’s also a new thing I ordered later on in the 3rd round which is their “Premium” Sushi selection and it was delicious and nice to try the bluefin tuna (1 pc) and halibut (2 pc) right before I ended with the heaviest but tastiest and favorite roll of mine which is the Baked Salmon Roll (8 pc).
BIG TIP for pacing, only drink water (and try not to drink too much water to get full) instead of soda/other drinks. Limit the amount of rice you eat. And lastly only order the heaviest rolls with the most sauce and most rice at the 3rd and final round. The friendly server recommended that next time I order the “Premium” sushi to try on the first round so I am not so full haha but no worries we finished our food regardless.
The first 2 rounds were nothing but nigiri, PLENTY of Salmon and plenty of Baked Mussels and Tempura appetizers. The best nigiri imo is the Salmon, and cant go wrong. However, the tastiest is probably the Cajun Albacore soooo good seasoning and spicy jalapeño kick, and the Seared Tuna very thicc piece of fish.
Highly recommend this place for All-You-Can-Eat sushi lovers that want the most bang for their buck. The pieces of fish quality was flavorful, buttery, fresh and the rice was nice warm and vinegary. Stood the test of time and will be going back on special occasions great place to eat and celebrate especially if you are on an empty stomach, dont go if you cant handle the AYCE because wasted rice is I believe a penalty haha
Also I told them it was my birthday and they gave 2 free strawberry mochi ice cream with whipped cream and a candle, thank you so...
Read moreI've been to Midori a lot over the last couple of years and they've always been amazing, but the service has become completely abysmal. It was a slower night than I've seen in all of the nights I've been there. Half of the tables were open which is unusual on a Saturday night. They tend to be pretty busy. My friend has been there regularly over six years. His girlfriend, who doesn't eat raw fish, wanted to order a chicken teriyaki plate while the two of us had sushi. With their rules, she would have to sit at the bar while we had our orders separate as I assumed it's a concern that it's possible she'd eat our food. We explained to the staff how she hates raw fish, but they weren't flexible with this rule. Even though they recognize my friend as a regular.
We had to flag down a waitress to ask for our drink order after 15 minutes of waiting and ordered our first round of sushi (all you can eat). I only say this because the place is pretty empty and we've had amazing service even on their busiest nights. I get it. I've been in this industry. But this place was more empty than I've ever seen before. After our order, there was a lapse of half an hour, with an empty table, before we had to flag down another waitress with our next order. My friend had to pour half of my water into his empty cup as no one came to check up on us. Not once during our entire meal. During our service, no one stopped by to check up and refill drinks. Over 45 minutes, we asked for our check four times. We had portions of a roll we couldn't finish and we were aware of paying for, but it wasn't until I brought this up when asking for the check the fourth time that they finally brought it and charged us which we said we were going to pay (and did). I'm shocked. This is honestly the worst service I've ever had eating out. I've never come across a business absolutely overlooking service and a staff so nonchalant. And it just wasn't us. Looking around the room, every table looked like that. The table across from us had to ask for their bill twice. There was even a couple who walked in, stood by the Matradee's podium for 10 minutes, tried to wave people down to seat them towards the end, and then decided to leave after being ignored. It's absurd.
In the end, we paid the full bill. First time in my life I've never left a tip. It blew me away. Oh, and as we paid the bill and got ready to leave, our waters were refilled for the first time that evening. Thanks.
My friend and I won't be coming back. I always referred Midori, but we'll be looking for...
Read moreThis place used to be my favorite place for many years, including college years and later, visits with my family and kids. While the food selection and quality stayed the same (no problems there), the service dipped considerably that I won't be visiting it any time soon. The orders sometime are misdelivered, the waiters have little knowledge and lesser interest in quality of their work. Last straw was my visit over the weekend with my wife and kids. Kids are small and do not eat sushi so we order teryiaki or salad for them a la carte and sushi for ourselves; that was never a problem and was originally offered to us by owner in Encino spot. Our young waiter says first he couldn't do it, then gives a spiel it would be the last time and still managed to screw up orders (deliver rolls first, had to remind him to bring kids' food, never bothered to bring appetizers and delivers miso soup towards the end) . One of the appetizers ordered was salmon teriyaki and my 6 year old grabbed a piece from the plate from the middle as it was placed. The waiter literally went off on the spot and start lecturing us not to share food and we would be charged full price. I didn't even bother arguing that kids' teryaki wasn't delivered by half an hour mark while we had sushi and rolls come and go, kindly told him not to make a scene, no one was arguing with him and just put it on a tab.
To the kid who served us: there are ways to inform customers without embarrassing yourself, no one comes to that restaurant with friends and family to be lectured, no one abused your policies and no sane parent would steal your sushi and give their kids raw fish to eat. Please use your brain mass, you just lost close to 8-10 customers in one go and most importantly, your considerable tip. I would not advise anyone to go to this Midori spot, try Encino one where the owner is almost on the site and she is the sweetest lady that will make your visits very enjoyable (without exception, she sends fried ice cream to our kids at every visit on the house; her hospitality is appreciated even by our kids who give her a hug...
