Poquito Mas — Restaurant in Los Angeles

DELICIOUS!!!! We are on vacation from NJ, so the only so-called “authentic” Mexican chains are places like On The Border and Baja Fresh, with these restaurants being mediocre at best. However, we went last night to Poquito Mas 40 minutes before closing time. They gave us chips with guacamole and Pico de Gallo right after we sat. The chips were fresh and delicious! The guac was pretty good, but the Pico was excellent. It was super fresh and flavorful. I also had an Ahi Tuna burrito for my meal (Mojado style). It was pretty big, and it was one of the best burritos I’ve had in a long time. I also got a Watermelon juice drink, which was incredible. It did have a strange note similar to cucumber, but it was addicting. Also, even though we finished our meal a few minutes after the 10:00 PM closing time, the service was great. The food is very inexpensive, but it as fresh and tasty as you can get. In-N-Out will always be my favorite restaurant out here (or anywhere), but Poquito Mas certainly puts up a good fight when you consider the unmatched taste and quality with the great service and cheap prices. Ever since this COVID started, customer services have gone down. I noticed many businesses went down too. And because of the pandemic. The industry has lost a lot. Even businesses have closed for good. Which is 😔 sad to see. And because of that, you would think they would be friendlier so they can bring back customers. Haven't been here for more than a year. Well, can't say they greeted me with a warm welcome. The lady was like, are you gonna order? Wut?? 😮 wow, nice attitude. They were pretty stingy with the salsa. He likes I put one inside already. What the hell can I do with 1 sauce when I ordered the steak dinner plate. 😒 Really?? This is my favorite location. I've been coming here for many decades. Sometimes when I ride out to Encino from Silver Lake. I would stop here for late lunch, early dinner on my way back riding. I love the fact that they let me bring my bike in. 🚴 Which I will not lock it anywhere in public. Very $$$$ expensive road bike. Also, I would always bring new friends here to dine. And they love it. Service is awesome, quick and fun to order. Fernando really breaks it down for what each item comes with and even adds his animation and sound effects to his job, hes enjoying his shift.

For food I got the steak nachos and carnitas plate.

Nachos are very disappointing. Steak is bland but tender. The chips are the same ones they use for their salsa and chips so very delicate and unfavorable, for making their own tortillas, very bad. The cheese is the Mexican cheese blend so it's not as creamy or "gooey" as nacho cheese usually is. Will not be ordering or recommending them.

Carnitas plate was good. Delicious flavor on carnitas but could use a few minutes on the flattop or plancha to get the crispiness carnitas are known for. Rice and beans are ok, what saves this dish is the homemade corn tortillas and salsas (green)
