If you're like me, you're probably looking up this place because it's the new hot cafe in LA. Modu has a lot of hype, but is it worth waiting in line and paying at least $7 per food item? I'd say yes and no. My wife and I got to Modu around 10:30 and the line wasn't too bad, but unfortunately for us, by the time I had gotten to the front of the line, all the popular bakery items had already been sold out. We ordered the hojicha mochi muffin, ssuk pound cake, a yuja passionfruit spritz, and a matcha tonic. The hojicha muffin was good, but not worth $6 for a muffin that size. The ssuk pound cake was our favorite of the two. Ssuk is very much a uniquely Korean ingredient, which we both liked. My wife liked the spritz, but was not a fan of the passionfruit seeds. She said it reminded her of giant chia seeds and did not like crunching on them haha Initially, I wasn't a fan of the matcha tonic, but the more I drank it, the more I grew to like it. I'd recommend this drink to adventurous matcha drinkers. I thought the ambiance of the cafe was great. The crowd inside the cafe was talkative, but not so loud that I couldn't have a conversation with my wife. I also loved how people were allowed to bring their dogs inside. Parking is obviously going to be tough, so be ready to walk at least a block if...

MODU CAFE (est 2024) is a brand new corner Korean coffee shop with picturesque pastries. This Highland Park coffee shop is the brain child of Jiyoon Jang, baker/owner. Modu, a Korean word, translates to âallâ or âeverythingâ.
Its minimalist and cubist interior design definitely a trademark of most Korean owned LA coffee shops. Similarly, its spacious layout was brilliantly conceived to add a more relaxing vibe. Tables and chairs were ash wood, high ceilings, and light grey lime-washed walls. Their soothing background music helps customers enjoy their coffee/pastries.
We came early morning to grab a Modu Latte. To much of our surprise, there is a long line up to the door entrance. Blimey!!
MC serve a full coffee and tea menu. Staff were cordial and professional. Atmosphere was relaxing. Prices for pastries were pricey given their relative small in size. For instance, the popular Milk Cream Bun cost $10 USD. Would the quality of ingredients justify it? Youâd be the judge. Plenty of street parking along York blvd. Overall, I enjoyed my hot...

It's such an early riser as the door opened at 7am, and probably due to its early days joining the club as well, I reached at 1 to find out all pastries had been sold out since 10.
So there I was, ended up with a drink only as I needed to spend some time working while having my caffeine dose. I tried their Modu Latte per the friendly barista's recommendation and I fell for it. It's bold kick with 2 espresso shots, which was very well balanced with the milk and cream top. All elements could stand out and not overpowering each other. Not in the camp of oat milk, I opted for almond substitute to the default oat and I loved my coffee. Also as I usually went with something sweet, this was perfect as it came with Korean black sugar and slight cinnamon touch. Worry not, the sweetness level was pretty subtle and just right.
Would definitely recommend, and looking forward to trying their...
