Nellie's Bakery — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I got 2 cakes for my kids bdays. I trusted the baker Irina and accepted all she offered. I didn’t go to pick up the cakes, but by the time it got home the whole cream was melted and the cakes were squished down. When I confronted them and requested a refund the next day they told me “you ate it and now are making stories up to get your money back. Bring the cakes back and we will refund your money.” Yea, right, I was gonna tell my guests to not touch the cakes because I’m gonna return them. I have sent them sufficient photos and videos. But the response was “we gave you the cake in a good condition, we aren’t responsible for it after.” The cakes were made of cream and no fondant was used. Per Irina not only it costs less but it tastes easy better. The cakes were smaller than what I was told they will be, the whole cream melted by the time my kids sang happy bday song. But somehow I was supposed to put it in the fridge. They are saying that the cakes were in the freezer for the whole night. Well if that’s the case why was the fondant still sooo soft. I found this bakery a few years ago and I go at least once a month when I am in town. I love the new layout. I am shocked by some of the reviews - anyway, here is my personal experience. 9/10 times, the pastries are great. Occasionally I will get a dry one that maybe isn’t as fresh. I have tried almost every pastry in the case at this point but I can not speak for the larger cakes.

At first, I thought the workers didn’t like me - and maybe they don’t - but no one has ever been rude. They are just stoic and I know some customers really don’t like that. It is always clean and organized and has an interesting selection of chocolates, sweets and foods from other countries. I love picking up new things and trying them. I really enjoy this bakery and my favorite items are: Bird Milk Cake (favorite), Caramel Cake, Mango Mousse (second favorite), Tiramisu Mousse, Berry Mousse, Mikado, Eclaire, Chocolate Mousse cup, and the Mocha triangle pastry (haven’t seen that in a while)

Horrible customer service. Sold us an old cake then refused to refund. It's not about the money and more about knowing how to treat you customers. Not putting on gloves and mushing up the cake saying "what part of this is old". And arguing about it infront of other customers. Clearly these people shouldn't be in the service industry if they can't even offer any sort of help for their customer. $50 is nothing compared to the customer you have now lost forever. Word of advice ... shop somewhere where your business is appreciated. Not here where you get into an argument about a $50 cake being old. It could have easily turned into a great experience where she could have said sorry we apologize how can we fix this.
