OK, probably one of the closest locations for me during work. Its not that the food is bad or that the service sucks. It's just OK overall for the price. I mean for some people this may feel like real "authentic" Mexican food; to a certain extent it is. It's catered to a certain demographic being in this part of town. I like the employees and I like the location but this place has so much potential to be a great location. That is what I'm trying to get at in my review.
I have had the burritos when I come here because it's easier to eat and go. I did enjoy the fact that they had the World cup games on so I made sure to come by during my lunch. The food has a decent flavor overall, the salsa bar is pretty good and I like the drink selection in the fridge. The chips are a little too hard for my taste, I'm sure they double fry them. I always order a chicken burrito or molcajete (wet burrito).
Now, the reason I say this place has potential is because if they just worked on the overall experience of the place it could become a really cool place to come to. The patio area is pretty nice over looking the main street etc. When you first come in they have this awkward 2 doors entrance, one is slightly curved toward the wall so obviously don't use that one, however people do it all the time lol.
The biggest factor for me is when you dine in; they serve it to you in disposable plates and utensils. I'm sorry! I know that may come off as a little snobby or rude, but I've worked in restaurants and trust me it just doesn't present itself as a well established place when you serve in cheap disposable stuff. They will save so much more money and create less trash if they invest in some silverware and good plates. This is the key factor holding back this little whole in the wall from becoming a true hip spot. I mean its always a little crowded when I come here and I'm sure it's because of the neighboring business. I wish them...
Read moreFirst I wanted to try this place (Ninas) to because it's a small business. But as I was standing in line ordering, a random elderly lady about 70 years of age really needed to use the restroom and the guy behind the counter was very rude to her and denied her access because she was not a customer. Also he made a big deal about 2 pennies from another customer and last... he was kinda rude about their chips and salsa which was right at then entrance and flies near by. If you are looking to get sick from the flies alone, eat the salsa. The back area smells like human urination. I don't blame that on them. I blame that on the homeless. The place is not that clean at all. I’m surprised the health department has not stepped in yet. Because the manager treated the elderly lady with no mercy and instead kinda had a mocking attitude, I canceled my order. So can't can't comment on the taste of the food. I drove about 1 mile away to a different Mexican food restaurant called Torteria 11300 W. Pico blvd. 90064. They had great customer service, food taste great at Torteria and the price was a bit better. Cleaner establishment. I recommend everyone go there instead. Please don’t just take my word, please read the other bad reviews that are here on this account. The man in the picture I have taken is the manager who was rude and laughed at the situation as if he enjoyed it all in a devious way. Again please read then other reviews and don’t just take my...
Read moreA repeat worthy casual and fair priced Mexican spot in Sawtelle. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and being that I live very close to this location I will certainly be back many times in the future. They don’t have a parking lot but street parking is pretty easy to find in this part of town depending on the time. It’s very small on the inside and really set up for to go. They do have a few tables inside, but they are very close together and you can tell it’s designed as a grab and go. They have a fairly large menu with all of the Mexican classics on it. The staff was also very polite and all of our items were ready quickly.
One of the first things I wanted to try was their fish taco. Being from San Diego and growing up there and moving to LA in early 2020 I am especially qualified to judge fish tacos and felt this one was pretty good for Los Angeles. I still have yet to find a great fish taco up here in LA but would consider this one one of the good ones. We also ordered the Carne Asada plate and the Carne Asada fries. The Carne Asada on both was very good and seasoned perfectly and all the sides that came with hit the spot as well. They pretty much had all the same flavors that I grew up eating so I really finished my plate.
Overall a solid grab and go Mexican spot in Sawtelle. I would recommend to anyone searching for a good and cheap...
