Oācado is a new, all-vegan place on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks at the former side of the Horseshoe CafĆ© where I had spent many nights as a younger lad writing caffeine fueled poetry. So it was nostalgic to be in the space again and especially exciting that a new all-vegetarian restaurant has opened up nearby. I canāt express enough the joy of looking at a menu and knowing I can have absolutely everything without asking any questions.
That having been said our experience with the food, in this comfortable sweet small space, was mixed.
I ordered the crispy potato tacos because CRISPY. POTATO. TACOS. They tasted good and were served with a fresh green salsa and fries. I didnāt really like the fries as they were coated and, I think, once youāve coat a fry you have ruined it. Okay, this may just be my personal french-fry-preferenceā¦BUT coated french fries feels like it suits more of a bar/gastropub style restaurant rather than a vegan place that is conscious about food health as well as taste.
Our kid enjoyed the Impossible Burger he ordered and said it was well worth the $17. (Though as vegetarian parents of a vegetarian kid we wished there was a less expensive kids menu as thatās a lot to drop for a meal on a ten year old.)
My wife got the Beet & Lentil salad which was very heavy on the arugula and didnāt have enough of the other ingredients (lentils, beets, etc.)
Itās also cool that they offer rotating selections of craft beersā¦Iām a fan of sours and was delighted that they had one on the menu when we were there. This one was described as passionfruit flavored, but it really just tasted very, very sour with no particular fruit flavor coming through.
Everything here is vegan, so need to ask questions if thatās your diet, and there are lots of gluten-free options as well (with them helpfully labeled right on the menu). We hear theyāre working on adding a gluten-free bread option too, but didnāt have one when we were there.
Weād definitely come back and give it another try as there are some great looking things on the menu we didnāt get the first...

I've been a semi regular since the year they open and can't recommend enough. 1000% Plant-based with gluten-free options and flavors for all.
Happy Hour specials are wonderful, and range with both food and drink options. Wine Wednesday being one of my favorites - half off bottles, yes, please! Taco Tuesday is my silver medal with so many choices, including crispy potato, street style jackfruit, avocado, Buffalo cauliflower, impossible, and even more!!
They do take reservations, and while the space offers bar, patio, and indoor seating, you may encounter a little wait on busier days and nights.
Takeout is always as good as in-person, though nothing beats the full O experience.
Try the apps and the wraps, be impressed by salads, desserts, sandwiches, and even more.
It's pure love as well infatuation Sherman Oaks, San Fernando, and Los Angeles!
Easy restroom accessible for customers, plus street parking access (metered) with a few paid lots nearby - restrictions for street parking are limited to 2-hour blocks, but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will never eat here again, we were seated before other guest but was given less attention than the others that were seated after us. They were constantly checked on but we weren't, I'm guessing the black race don't deserve the same attention. I literally had to ask for everything while the white couple sitting behind my family whom was seated after us were offered everything. I asked for a to-go bag and the waiter who was handling both tables offered the couple a to-go bag while we waited 15 minutes and never got a bag, I had to ask for one once again. I went inside to take my daughter to use the restroom being that we ate outside and the bust girl came up to me and my daughter and said "you need a mask on" mind you nobody else in the entire restaurant had on a mask. Race shouldn't be an issue when we are all human beings, I feel disgusted that we were treated that way after paying $100 with an included tip for our food. A tip to the restaurant and servers, treat every race the same, we are all spending the same money!! Won't ever eat...
